I bought this massager for my fiance who has chronic back pain and muscle tightness. The massager does a decent job of loosening her muscles and relieving the pain but it is tricky to use owing to the width of the head is fairly wide (4 inches between the points of contact and the head is wider still). This makes it difficult to use in the shoulder region as it is absolutely painful if this massager contact bone beneath the skin (shoulder blade, collar bone, spine, etc). The heat function is basically negligible...it prevents the contacts from feeling cold on your skin during the winter but that is all, it by no means will heat an area of your skin/muscle that is sore. It was worth the money for this item because we had a specific use that required so much power. For a normal person, I suspect this would be more painful than useful.
