Customer Reviews of Homedics QRM-400H Therapist Select Quad-Roller Massaging Cushion with HeatCustomer Review: Feels good, but don't lean too hard against it... Summary: 4 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Unpacking the product is a snap, it's well secured in the box, and it's easy to unwrap and then attach to a chair (with the provided "security" straps).
The first thing I did was use the DEMO option on the remote control, after plugging the chair in and watching the blue lights illuminate on the rollers. I'm not sure why the chair lights up like that since your back will be against it, but it's a nice touch.
The demo mode shows you everything the chair can do, from shiatsu, to roller, to heat. It flashes lights on the remote telling you what it's doing, so you can have a visual cue as to where the massage is focused.
Rolling massage moves the system up and down your back - you can also focus on just the lower, just the upper, or a certain spot. There is also a setting allowing the roller to widen in and out, based on how close to your spine you prefer massage.
Shiatsu is the next feature, and again, it can focus on lower, upper, full back, or spot. The pressure points feel wonderful and actually feel like a professional massager really digging into your muscles.
The final option is heat - you can turn this on or off once the massager is active. It heats up very quickly, so you don't have to wait for that wonderfully warm feeling.
The only downside so far is that my back was sore the next day. This may have been because I was leaning too far back on the chair (instead of having it upright completely). Do be cautious about putting too much pressure against the machine, and try to follow the guidelines for how long you should use the massager before giving your muscles a break.
I do wish the system would not leave the lights on permanently - but that's easy to solve by unplugging the chair - and probably safer to leave it unplugged when not in use.
enjoy the chair - it provides a relaxing way to end the day, especially if you have lower back problems.
Customer Review: My back will back 4.5 stars! Summary: 5 Stars

On receiving the Hoemdics QRM-400H Massaging cushion myself and three other members of my family (My wife and my visiting parents - who happen to be in their 60's) gave it a whirl. With one unanimous voice we all agreed that this is a fine product. My back was a little stiff and after 5 minutes of the warming rolling massage it felt considerably better!
Pros-
- Two massage settings: Rolling which is lighter and (to me) more refreshing massage. Then there is the Shiatsu massage, which reminded me of the hour I spent getting a turkish massage in Budapest - it is a little "deeper" to the point that it almost hurts!
- The heat is a nice option for sore muscles.
- You can concentrate the heat and massaging action to one specific area. This is especially nice if you have lower back pain.
- VERY sturdy construction - you really shouldn't let the word "cushion" deceive you!
- Variable controls - the ability to adjust the width of the rolls helps customize the product to the dimensions of your spine. Trust me, this helps make the massage a much more pleasant experience.
- The remote control is conveniently located and easy to use.
- Nice functionality and design for the cost - I have seen similar massage "chairs" sell for nearly $1000!
Opportunities for improvement:
- As someone previously mentioned, the cushion does not have the ability to massage your shoulders. The massaging action stops at about the base of my shoulder blades.
- The Shiatsu action can actually hurt. At one point I gritted my teeth in the name of getting a massage.
My overall opinion is very positive - I feel that the Homedics QRM-400H is both effective and a nice value. While I would have preferred something that could have reached my shoulders - I realize that products that have this feature are considerably more expensive.
Customer Review: Homedics QRM -400H Massage Cushion Summary: 1 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
The first thing I noticed about the massage cushion is it's sour chemical-like smell. The smell filled all the rooms of my apartment for several days. Even now, over two weeks after removing the cushion from its box, I can still smell it. Homedics has a notice in the package that the smell will dissipate in 24 hours. I don't think the smell will ever disappear.
My plan was to set the massage cushion up in my favoite chair, plug it in and whenever I wanted a back rub or some heat it would be there to use. This is not possible because the cushion is too large for my chair. It does not leave enough room for me to sit. Even sitting on the edge of the chair the bottom pad is shaped so that i feel like I'm sliding off of what little sitting area is left. The cushion measures about 5" thick, but when placed in the chair it's effective depth is much more. It would not fit in two other chairs I tried it on either. When I tried to set the cushion on a couch, or propped up against the wall on a bed, it tended to flop over.
Even if the cushion did fit I would be unable to use the chair. The cushion has 4 rock-hard plastic rollers sticking through the back fabric. It is very uncomfortable having these rollers poking me in the back while sitting. The rollers poking me in the back make any chair unusable for sitting. I'm not a person who would bother to get the cushion out of storage and crawl around on all fours to find a wall socket for the ac plug more than once. The cushion will stay in the closet and never be used.
The uncomfortable feeling turned into pain once the cushion was turned on. The rollers are less than an inch thick and the sensation is more like being poked with a broom handle than massaged. The worst part is when the rollers come together in the middle of my back. It feels like someone is using a small hammer on the bones of my spine. This HURTS!
Customer Review: A near perfect chair massager Summary: 4 Stars

Homedics QRM-400H Therapist Select Quad-Roller Massaging Cushion with Heat
is a very nice chair massager. It allows for easy use in a variety of settings, as long as there is a plug in near. Use in on a chair, sofa, or even sit on the floor against a wall if you are so inclined.
The first thing that sets this particular model apart from its competitors in the two seperate settings. You can either select the 'Rolling' setting - which is basically the twin rollers on each side move up and down your back. Or, you can select the 'Shiatsu' setting, which means not only to the wheels go up and down, but in and out from the middle of your back to the outside of your back kneading those tired muscles. Within each setting are seperate area that the massager can key on. You can select entire back, upper back, or lower back - all depending on your needs. You can also have the massager hold in one position and work a spot that is really troublesome.
As an added benefit you can also intorduce a heat function for those tired muscles. As an added bonus you can also adjust the width of the rollers.
This is my second chair massage, both Homedic, and I must say this one far outshines the other. The control is easy to use, simple and has a nice attached pouch to store the control when not in use.
The advantages of this model are:
Ease of use
Variety of settings
Size/weight
Overall design
The one drawback I have (and it seems like a few others agree). Is I wish it went a little higher up on my upperback. Being 5'8" I thought it would have accomodated me easily.
Overall, this is a high quality piece of equipment and one I am very pleased to have. I am sure It will get much use during the hockey season by me.
Customer Review: WOW. Not for the faint of heart. Summary: 4 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I've seen these chair massagers in stores and they're always being demo'ed on cushy armchairs. So when mine arrived I set it up on a cushy armchair. Bad move. The back pad of this machine is very stiff, and comes to the back of my neck. My head was resting on the back of the armchair but the stiffness of the massager was pushing the rest of my body forward. In order to not have an exaggerated arch to my back, I had to sit up relatively straight (not leaning my head back against anything), which is a stressful position when you want to relax with a massage.
The shiatsu massage was punishing. Brutal! We will probably never use that setting again. I gritted my teeth and sat through it so I could complete this review, but OW. The rolling massage was less painful, but nothing to rave about. In both cases the "Lower Back" setting only went about as low as my waist, where I had been hoping for a true lower back setting, nearer to the level of my hips.
After my son also tested it in the armchair, we laid it on the floor and tried it that way. It was marginally better. At least the rolling massage was enjoyable in this position, and I was able to position myself so that the "Lower Back" setting targeted the areas I wanted to target. When I added the heat, it was nearly soporific. If I'd had a cushion to prop my feet upon, I would be sleeping instead of writing this review for you.
So the only thing I'm not sure about now is whether this cushion will take the weight of someone repeatedly lying on it, instead of just sitting on it. (The seat part of the unit contains nothing but a cushion; no electronics at all.) But since we found a way to comfortably use it, it should come in handy until it breaks!
