Customer Review: No, it's not like a professional massage, but it will relax you...
Summary: 4 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
If you're looking for an all-over professional massage and serious attention to major back pain, then definitely go for a more expensive and complex massager. But if you want gentle every day massage on the muscles on either side of your spine, this simple massager will do just fine. I use it when I am sitting at my computer desk. The strap keeps the massager firmly in place on my desk chair, and it is quite comfortable. First thing I noticed is that it immediately makes you adjust your posture and sit up straighter, because you want your back to "reach" for the pleasure of the massage, so you bring your shoulders up to meet it instead of slumping. The wired remote (which tucks neatly into a pocket on the massager) has 6 simple button options, including "Demo" mode, full back, upper back, lower back, heat, and the power button. For me personally, the most relief is experienced in the center of the upper back, where I carry much of my tension.

The chair has some drawbacks. I wish that the massage mechanism actually dug a bit deeper and more intensely into your muscles--it's a very light and gentle massage. Also, the "heat" option doesn't really get all that warm. It could be the slightest bit hotter. Also, the massager automatically goes off every 15 minutes, so if you are sitting at your desk for a long session of computer work, you have to restart the massager with the remote every 15 minutes. And finally, it's hard not to feel like your neck is being neglected when you use the massager, because for an averaged height person, it truly does climb just to right below the neck.

Again, overall, this simple unit is good for easing every day back discomfort and tension, but by no means will it have a heavy impact on people with serious back issues.

Customer Review: Oh the Joy! Oh the Pain! Use as Directed

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Follow the directions and you'll have a wonderful little massager with this product. It's about as easy to set up as anything I've ever seen. Open the box, set the massager on an easy chair -- I used a recliner -- turn it on and you're good to go.

From the first massage I was hooked. I couldn't get out of that recliner, not to refill my coffee, not to get the remote, not for anything. I just shouted out for Sara to supply me with whatever I needed. I was never getting up, not even to pee. But after my forth or fifth cup of coffee, I had to go so bad my bladder felt like a blowfish about to blow. That baby was stretched to the limit. I forced myself up. But as soon as I was finished, I came straight back to the back massager.

Then I got an idea. If it's so great in the chair, imagine how great it'd be if took it to bed and stretched out on top of it.

"I don't think that's a good idea," Sara said.

But what did she know. She's a woman.

I got a good book, took the shiatsu massager to the bedroom, laid on the bed, plugged it in, laid on top of it, turned it on and I was styling.

But now I'm hurting. My back is good and sore, all bruised up. I'm sitting up straight as I'm typing this. I don't dare lean back. The pain, oh the pain. I guess this is why they have directions. But heck, I'm a Mac guy, we don't read directions. However, sometimes we learn the hard way. Use this baby as directed and you will love it. Use it like I did and you'll probably wind up like me. Still, though the massager destroyed my back, I can't take any stars away from it, because it wasn't its fault. My wife loves it. My son does do. So do the neighbors, the UPS man and the babysitter. So five stars from me. Just be careful.

Customer Review: Homedics' best model
Summary: 5 Stars

They're a nemesis, filling drawers, closets and spare boxes, and so imposing in their size, weight, and arcane specs that we feel compelled to hang on to them, even though we no longer have any idea what they're for. I'm speaking about the ubiquitous external power adapters that now come with dozens of applications--electric pianos, compact clock radios, useless Ronco buzzing seat vibrators--where at one time they weren't required. Out of sight was out of mind, and the equipment "seemed" to work without them. Six-connector power strips weren't consumed by a mere one or two space-robbing heavy hogs, pianos didn't fail because someone broke the thin wire connected to the adapter running the whole show.

It's time to declare war against wall warts. Throw the suckers out or use them as boat anchors. They're a cheap cop-out for most manufacturers, enabling the bypassing of sophisticated electronic circuitry as well as allowing the company to advertise their product as more "light-weight" than a former version, since they don't have to factor in the dead weight of these ludicrous sinkers.

Last year I purchased the Homedics deluxe model. It failed in six months, even though it still looks spanking new. Perhaps it's still under warranty, but who wants to pack it, insuring that the power adapter doesn't become a lethal flying object in the event of a mishap? Moreover, if it's repaired, what have I accomplished if I've still got the ugly squat turret to contend with?

I cut my losses on the more expensive Homedics shiatsu from last year and purchased the SBM-200H. No silly bottom buzzer, but also no power adapter! An impressive "return to progress." I expect this one to last me until next Christmas (though I pray the company doesn't decide to revert to the black blocks for the sake of a better profit line on the seasonal ledger sheet).

Customer Review: Awesome message for your back!

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
The Homedics SBM-200H message chair is the ideal at home message treatment. It has 3 setting~~spot message, regular message, or rolling message~~and you choose if you'd like heat with your message. I loved the heated rolling message~~it felt like I was getting a professional message, only with heat!! I've gotten so I love to do it as soon as I get home from work, because it helps me relax and loosen up all those stiff muscles.
The chair itself it light, compact and fits in all the chairs in my house, and would fit perfectly in my car seat if I had an adapter. It has a 15 min. timer on it, so it doesn't become too hot~~which at first I thought was kind of bothersome, when I was doing a message, but after thought realized this is probably a great feature, so that if you leave the messager on, it will kick itself off. No worries!! And it's quick to heat right back up...you only have to wait a min. or two to start your message right back up. It's got a handy little remote attached to it, that is perfect for you to hold in your right hand, so you can easily switch settings while your're doing your message...I like to do the rolling message, then switch to the lower back, then the upper, then back to rolling. I could do this for hours!! It's SO relaxing...I've set mine up in my living room so that I can have my message while watching tv!! Perfect!!
This message chair is ideal for those who don't have the $ to drop on an expensive message table, but would love to have a messager of their own. For the cost, this is a bargain, and you'll love it!! It's well worth every dime you'll spend on it!!

Ahh, the the overwhelming feeling of relaxation- how beautiful it is! The Homedics Therapist Select Shiatsu Massaging Cushion with Heat is a wonder. You take it out of the box, remove the security screw, place the cushion on a chair, read the directions, turn on the Demo button and see what happens. A delightful pulsing action is felt and the shiatsu massage starts up the back- you have several options, lower back, lower back with heat, upper back, upper back with heat, full back and full back with heat. Try them all and select the option that suits your particular need. I am partial to the full back with heat. I am 5'9" and this cushion is perfection for me. It hits all of the areas of my lower, mid and upper back. I have a stressful job and this cushion relaxes me completely and the heat adds the bonus. Love it, love it. Nothing beats a massage by a masseuse but this cushion shiatsu is almost as good.

"This deluxe shiatsu massage unit helps to relax muscles and relieve tension build-up by providing unique rhythmic pressure along key pressure points. Knead away deep aches and pains by combining the pleasure of a therapeutic massage with gentle physical manipulation." Homedics Instructions.

Over the holiday season this massage cushion will be used quite often.
