I purchased this for my husband for our anniversary. I did lots of shopping around and looking at reviews for several different ones. Some friends of ours actually have a shiatsu chair and I wanted something comparable but cheaper.
My husband loves it. For a mat that sits in a chair it does very good. He even takes it up to bed sometimes and lays on it. The heat is great, it doesn't take any time for the mat to warm up and relax your muscles.
I would recommend this because it gives a great massage for less money then purchasing a chair.

I have many back tension issues and was looking for something to help out. When I first got this I was very impressed- all of the functions work just as descibed and I was in heaven! I have been using it for a month or two and it does not have the full motion that it originaly had. When I'm sitting in it, it stops at the bottom of my shoulder blades and stops at just a little lower than half down my back. I don't know if anyone else has had this problem, maybe I just have a defective item. Back feels much better now none-the-less, with a lot of shifting haha.Customer Review: Works great

I bought one of these first as a gift, then asked to try it. It seemed fine, so I got one for myself. It does a great job. The only drawback I see is that it doesn't get the upper reaches of my back as I would hope it would. I get professional massages at times, and I notice that since using this device the masseur no longer finds very sensitive spots. The heat seems adequate when I turn it on, the pressure seems right. I recall that I read about problems persons had in some of the other reviews, but I had none of the problems I recall reading about.Customer Review: Nice massage

The Homedics SBM-300H Therapist Select Shiatsu PLUS Massaging Cushion with Heat is nice but I recommend that you put a fairly thick towel between you and the mat. The balls are REALLY hard in the middle of your back. The upper back and lower back feel good but when it passes through the middle of your back it is very uncomfortable. The towel makes a big difference in the comfort level. Unfortunately, this negates the heat function since you really can't feel it through the towels.
With that said, I do enjoy my massaging cushion.

I received the massage cushion as a Christmas gift, so it was a total surprise. Since than, I have been relaxing and enjoying it for as many times in a day, that I can find an excuse for. Actually, no excuse needed. Just sit down and relax.
Guess I complained about a back ache more than I realized. Not to say that it is a cure for back pain, but it does relieve minor aches and pains and just feels so good. Almost like having a therapist work on your back. I would recommend it for any age, young or old. I am 69 and love it.
