After reading the reviews here, I decided to purchase this model, SBM-300H, and return a less expensive chair massager back to walmart (it was similar to the SBM-200, but it was the walmart brand). It was a good decision. The previous chair massage pad only had the shiatsu massage and a choice of full, upper or lower massage. This model, 300H, has rolling and shiatsu massage, width adjustment (for the rolling massage) and a spot massage (for the shiatsu) which will focus the massage in one area. The spot massage alone is worth the extra money. If you feel a sore spot, you can pause the rollers right there and work that area. This was absolutely impossible to do with my previous massage chair pad.
That being said, the massage does not go quite as high up on my shoulders as I would like, so I find myself scooting down and back so that it will work my trapezoids.
The heat works quickly and well. This is important because you want your muscles to be warm and loose for the deep tissue work. This will lessen the soreness. With my previous chair the heat took much longer to work.
This chair provides a good moderate massage. It's not too light and it's not too deep. The previous massage chair (for any of you considering saving a buck with the massage cushion from walmart) was much to deep. It was extremely rough. This one provides a nice balance. Once again, it's well worth the extra money.
I enjoy deep tissue massages and would try to work out the tension in my back with tennis balls when I couldn't afford to go to the massage therapist. The SBM-300H does a better job than the tennis balls with much less work. Nothing is quite as good as a trip to an actual massage therapist, but this massage cushion runs a close second.

When I picked up the item at first, I was unsure if I wanted it playing with my the curves of my back. To be honest I was worried about this product in the beginning because I had once picked up something along these lines and it hadn't worked out, and one of the things i learned from it was that I'm not really trusting with items and a little thing I call my spine. It and I reached an agreement when it came in, however, with the item working out pretty well when I began using it and I started a little addition with the "full massage with heating" option. It warns about love affairs like that, however, citing how three hours of time could be non-conducive to the health of one's back. It should also warn about leaving the beast setting in a chair overnight, the straps comfortable locked around a chair and left like some sort of furnishing, because I once dove into a chair with it in it and it wasn't receptive to my advance.
Besides those silly types of things, the ones that you know you shouldn't do and yet do anyhow, you are good to go.
The instructions are easy to use, the controls are response and eager to be played with, and the chair sets up easily. It isn't made for all heights, however, and me being 6'6" has been something of a problem for my shoulders. They are left out of the fray and that isn't really a luxury, but it is only a slight problem and can be fixed somewhat easily.
Overall, a great thing for most people and comfortable on the back before bedtime.

I love this massage cushion. I have to say I haven't tried any others really, but this one does what I need it to! I don't have any severe back problems but I do experience day to day back pain and this massage cushion just feels so good after standing on my feet all day at work!
This massager has the shiatsu motion and a rolling massage option. For the rolling massage, the balls stay in position and they just slide up and down your back- you can adjust how far apart from eachother they are. I could do without the rolling motion- it doesn't do much for me.
What I do like is the heat option. I didn't think I would care about it, but after using it, it feels so good! Definitely worth it to get the heat option.
I don't think the massage is too strong. I am a thin person and I don't need to put a towel over the cushion to weaken the massage. Sometimes it feels a little strong when the shiatsu gets to my shoulder blades, but then I just lean forward a little bit and not put all my weight against the chair.
This massage cushion also has the "spot" option so you can stop the massager if you have an area in your back that you want the massage balls to focus on. It's a pretty nice feature and I'm glad I have it.
I read that this cushion is too thick to put on an office chair- but I use it on an office chair without a problem. The only issue I have with this chair so far is that I shouldn't use it all day every day- it's hard not to use it often!
BIG TIP- Amazon has this cushion for $160 but I actually bought mine on the Homedics website for only $99.99 and it's the exact same one- the SBM-300H (and as I'm writing this review it's now on sale for $79.99 :X )

I must say that I have been quite impressed by this product. Homedics makes a whole line of these massage chairs, along with other "personal health and comfort" gadgets. My experience with their products has been mixed. Almost all of their items deliver as promised early on, but most of my Homedics gear (purchased for me or family) has broken relatively quickly. That is the big caveat with this unit, and the reason I am giving it 4 stars- it is impossible to ascertain its durability.
What this unit does, it does surprisingly well. The chair is heavy and rugged, and can comfortably be placed on a couch or office chair. It plugs into a wall outlet (no car adapter possible), and features a handed corded remote. The thing that makes this chair stand out is the effectiveness and strength of the shiatsu massage. I expected a weak, half-baked vibrating chair, but was surprised to find a good, deep back massage. There are two basic functions: shiatsu, and standard up-and-down roller massage. For each, you can specify the width of the rollers (to accommodate different back sizes) or a specific spot you'd like it to work on. There is also a heat function, which takes a while to get going, but does work. One drawback for me (I'm 6ft tall) is that the chair only reaches my shoulder blades, and therefore can't do anything north of that region. For shorter folks, though, this will be a god-send. Assuming this unit is durable, I can do nothing but recommend it.

It's extremely important to follow simple directions when opening the package for this massage cushion, as failure to remove a simple screw can apparently destroy this elegant mechanical massage device. Once you've taken a few seconds to remove the well-marked screw, it's then extremely easy to just plug the power cord into the wall, set the cushion on your favorite easy chair, and try out the "demo" massage mode, to see how the various settings suit you. I noted that the heavy-duty Shiatsu settings were a bit aggressive for my current massage requirements, so I've subsequently enjoyed utilizing the non-Shiatsu, or "rolling" settings as marked on the handy remote control. The heat setting can be on or off, and I found the heat to be tremendously helpful, especially on my lower back. I love the option to be able to bring the rolling massage knobs closer together or farther apart from my spine, and I also love the ability to just have a lower or upper back massage... or a full massage (rolling). Similar options exist for the Shiatsu massage, and so this is one awesome massage cushion. I find it tremendously useful after having done heavy work in the garden or around the house, and after heavy work-outs... or just while relaxing after having spent hours at the computer. Anyone seeking a way to get a back massage who doesn't have a friend to help them with it will fall in love with this versatile, powerful, and relaxing device.
