Customer Reviews of Homedics SBM-300H Therapist Select Shiatsu PLUS Massaging Cushion with Heat

Customer Review: Fantastic Massaging Cushion--with only one tiny drawback.
Summary: 4 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
This product is fantastic. I've had a knot in my mid back--right at the spot where you can't really touch it, no matter how you twist your arms around--that I haven't been able to deal with for a week. Enter the Homedics SBM-300H Massaging Cushion with Heat, and after three uses (last night, this morning, and again tonight), that knot is gone. Not only can you program two different types of massage (rolling and shiatsu--although I don't find the rolling massage personally appealing) up and down your spine, you can program this cushion to focus on the upper back, the lower back, or even to focus on one particular spot.

The only drawback is that I feel the cushion should go just a little bit higher. I'm not that tall (5'9"), and it only comes up to the middle of my shoulderblades. I have to slouch to get it to hit the part of my shoulder that tenses up when I'm at a computer--and at the end of the day, that's quite often the part of my back that needs the massage the most!

Customer Review: Not For Me
Summary: 3 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Technically, this product does what it's supposed to do. I mean, it's features all function.

However I found that beyond that, I wasn't very impressed. I didn't like the rolling massage at all. I found the shiatsu massage to be so-so, a bit too pressure heavy for my own personal tastes.
Also, the massager doesn't reach up very far and it didn't reach high up enough on my back to get my most problematic area. Considering how short I am, I imagine taller people will find it even less useful than I did. Unless your problem is really in your lower back, in which case this might well be fine for you.

I also found the piece itself to be far too bulky. Once I put it on my chair there wasn't much room left. This made sitting all the more uncomfortable.

Overall it just wasn't to my tastes personally and if your preferences are similar to mine, it likely won't be to yours, either. Otherwise it's probably a very good piece of equipment.

Customer Review: Use straight in chair, not for heavy people
Summary: 3 Stars

I might have hurt my unit, being a big guy, and using it in a sort-of-soft, not-quite-vertical chair.
So, it makes a 'cracking knuckles' sound that isn't my back. :)
HOWEVER it is a very good comfort to me and works well. The heat is nice, the rollers were smart. Someone said the quad-roller was unimpressive because of a higher-odds-of-failure but also non specific pressure and I think they would be right.
I picked the right massage seat. The two (not four) rollers are location specific, and strong and provide very broad, but powerful pressure.
I just should have used it in a firm, upright chair, like an office chair, Ummmmmm like they said in the instructions....durrrrrr
It can roll straight up and down, and also roll around up and down like Shiatsu massage. It runs 15 minutes and cuts off, so if you get up to take a phonecall and forget it, it doesn't run all night. (I've done it)
It's been durable and despite my size (6' 4" 260 lbs) and the way I did not use it quite right; it's running fine and just makes that annoying little click-clack noise.
I like it, and I'd recommend it for a person who is 260 or less, and can read directions LOL

Customer Review: Like an on-call massage therapist!
Summary: 5 Stars

Our 26-year old daughter asked for this cushion for Christmas. She had tried out several massage chairs at various stores, including some expensive recliners, and liked this one best. It was the highlight of the holiday celebration--family members aged 7-67 loved it! The motion is so strong and focused that it was like hiring a massage therapist to make a house call.

Those who had back pain and muscle tension found this cushion provided relief quickly. Those without particular issues still said the cushion was very relaxing. Everyone liked the heat. Almost everyone strongly preferred the shiatsu massage. One person liked the rolling massage better; he thought the shiatsu was unpleasant, like being punched.

The children loved seeing the lights move around inside, while some of the older generation thought that feature was a little bit weird. No matter--you can't see the lights when you use the cushion anyway.

The cushion was used almost all day for three days with no sign of overheating or any other problem. With more features than the other Homedics models, this is a very good value. We plan to buy more for other family members.

Customer Review: 4 1/2 stars
Summary: 4 Stars

is all I can say. Bought this along with the HoMedics massaging pillow. I think this is the best deal I've seen for this machine. In fact, can't find the SBM300 anywhere else.

The difference is how many features do you want? If you only want the fabulous shiatsu, then get the SBM200; if you only want the rolling, get the SBM400. IF you really like having the options, get the SBM300.

I am really impressed with the quality of the fabric and the mechanisms in this device. The heating is just perfect- won't burn you, but just warms up enough for the massage. I am VERY impressed with the strength of the massage- wow! if you have knots, this IS the machine for you. If you want a lighter massage, you just put a blanket over it.

I only gave this back massager 4 1/2 stars because it's a bit noisy. I mean, it's not going to distract you from watching TV- has the sound like a low idling car.

You also cannot change the speed of the massage, though you can indicate which areas you want massaged.

Overall, I would recommend (have recommended) this to each of my family and friends.
