Customer Reviews of Homedics SBM-300H Therapist Select Shiatsu PLUS Massaging Cushion with HeatCustomer Review: Fine while it lasted...and again Summary: 2 Stars
I had the Homedics SBM-300H for almost 1 month, enjoyed it and gained quite a bit of ground with a recent back surgery using it. That is, until it literally ground itself to a noisy, crunchy halt last night. No abuse, no wierd stuff like laying on it or the like - just used it as recommended. I guess I'll find out how well the warranty and ultimately the product work. Can I recommend it? Based upon this experience, not yet...
Update: The item has failed a second time; it began a terrible, grinding, growling sound, as if it's preparing to eat itself up inside. So, it goes back to Homedics, I eat another set of return shipping charges, and the beat goes on. Definitely not a durable product.
Customer Review: Good Massage Summary: 4 Stars
I read the other reviews before I bought this. I recommend this over the model before (not many features) and the model after (too many features, not important features).
The chair gives a solid massage, it is rigorous though. I wouldn't recommend for older people or people with an injury. It is nice to use after a long day and it automatically turns off after the heat is on for about 10 minutes.
It is slim enough to tuck in a corner unobtrusively.
Pretty light too so you don't have to bust your back lol
It is a good alternative to those who like to visit Brookstone/Sharper Image to sit in the massage chairs for "testing" because they cost like some ridiculous amount.
Customer Review: very nice Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this as a gift for my dad. I read a lot of review on this and 2 other models...this particular model seemed to have the best reviews. I have to say that for the money, this is a good product. I wish that the massage feature went higher, for someone tall like my Dad, it doesn't go as high as he would like...but he does really enjoy the massage action and says it does hit the right spots along his spine. I tried it as well and the shiatsu is almost to strong for me, but I love the roller action. I also really love the heat feature and the "spot" treatment. I will most likely end up getting a 2nd as another family member was more then a little jealous of this gift!!
Customer Review: Unit Broke Within Minutes Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased this product, removed the screw and set it up according to the directions. I turned the product on and enjoyed it for about ten minutes when it stopped working completely. I read the instructions and it said there was a 15 minute auto-shutoff feature. I thought perhaps I reached the time limit, so I tried to turn the device on again. Nothing. I tried unplugging the unit and plugging it back in. Nothing. I waited several hours and tried again. Nothing.
For the 10 minutes the unit worked, it felt great. However, the next day I was very sore and even slightly bruised in my upper back.
I'm very disappointed with this purchase.
Customer Review: Good massage seat, not for tall people Summary: 4 Stars
Other reviewers wrote informative reviews already - good massage chair and has minor quality control issue. Here are some thing not mentioned in other reviews as far as I see.
1. It does not work well for tall people. I am 6' 2.5" with a relatively short upper body. The massage handles could only go up to about 5 inch below my shoulder - I really hoped them to go higher to relax muscles under my neck.
2. I think one should start using this in roll mode - if start in shiatsu mode, the two massage handles really go very close to each other (~1.2 inches) and it make hurt your spine if your are not exactly sitting in the middle of the seat.
