I bought this for my mom so she would stop bugging me to give her shoulder massages. As soon as I showed her how to use it, I wanted to keep it for myself. Then I recommended it to a friend with chronic arm and neck pain... and after she tried it, I bought her one as well. I've never had a very satisfactory massage from a person... it's either too hard or too soft. I LOVE this pillow and I've finally bought one for myself as well.
Be warned: After the automatic shut-off, DON'T restart it and use it in the same place again... There's a reason for that auto-shut off. Otherwise your skin will feel really sore the next day. And you shouldn't push hard into the pillow. The mechanics are not designed to withstand immense pressure or abuse.

This is an ok massager for a quick fixer upper for your lower back and your neck.
Don't be mistaken by its "pillow" name though as this thing is as hard as a rock.
But that's a good thing as you'd buy this as a massager, and not something to sleep on.
There is hardly any padding between the massaging elements and the covering, so if you really push back on it, like say squash it up against a couch, then it's really effective in getting the knots out of your back and neck.
For the back it is rather small, but since it's made for the neck mainly, you can't ask for much.
There is a function to add heat, but it does nothing more than warms it up a little - nothing you can really feel, so for this it is useless.

I actually expected that this pillow would provide a wimpy little amount of massage but I ordered it as an additional lumbar support pillow for my home office chair. Much to my surprise the pillow works well and in all areas of the back and neck. The pillow is very soft, convenient and works very well to relieve minor aches and pains. The heat is an added bonus and it really does heat up nicely. I read a few of the reviews that talked about this pillow malfunctioning and "eating itself" but I would imagine that this would only happen if instructions are not followed....such as the amount of time you use the pillow, or even excessive weight or folding of the mechanism inside. I highly recommend it for the price, convenience and performance.Customer Review: Lasted 10 minutes

This item lasted 10 minuted before it stopped working. I purchased this at another store (50 miles from where I live) but felt I should post my thoughts here. Purchasing from Amazon would have been the better choice.
Homedics did not respond to my email, so I ended up calling them directly. They offered to have it exchanged via UPS and also offered some online coupons for my troubles. I just wanted my money back, but I was told the only way to receive the coupons was to do the exchange. I did not want to roll the dice again and chose to drive the 100+ miles round trip to get my money back. I also posted my review at Homedics website, but they chose not to post my review. They have only posted 5 star and fawning reviews.
Customer Review: Died First Day But Oh Were Those First Two Hours Awesome!

This was far and away the best Christmas gift for the eight hours it worked. I used it on all parts of my back, feet and neck. Mine died a quiet death - it didn't eat itself or start smoking.
I purchased from Amazon and because the reviews are very strong for the most part, I will be returning it for a replacement model.
I hope it works because this massager really does the job. I spend a lot of time in a chair doing interviews on the phone and my neck is constantly sore from tilting to the side.
This product gives a firm, rotating massage that digs into the shoulder blades. I used it on my neck while laying on the couch and on my lower back while sitting against a wall.
It was phenomenal. Until it died.
