I've been using the gel in conjunction with Hyland's teething tablets or Boiron's Camilia and find that it works well when combined.

Why?

Half the time I barely manage to connect the gel to baby's gums as his tongue is forever trying to lick anything that comes near his mouth.

He's very well likely swallowing the gel half the time.

I tend not to give more than 2-4 doses.

I think it works as well as can be expected for teething babies.
