I am a CKTP...or Certified Kinesio Taping Practitioner. I am also a sports med. doctor and treat amateur and professional athletes. I can attest to the fact that you need a good knowledge of kinesiology and biomechanics to maximize the effects of this tape. The tape can be used to facilitate and inhibit muscle function, mechanically correct joint and soft tissue issues, functionally correct impaired movement patterns, and is great for lymph/circulation issues.
The problem nowadays is that every runner/triathlete/athlete want to go out and buy this tape, or Rocktape, and slap it on. Mind you, if it's applied incorrectly, you risk significant damage to your body. For example, if you wish to facilitate a muscle and you end up inhibiting it, you can do yourself a lot of harm, especially over the course of a sporting event.
It's best to see a CKTP before you play around with this stuff. Unless you know your anatomy and kinesiology at a very high level, this tape should not be used. Sure, people don't want to see a professional as it means taking time, a co-pay, etc...but, being you can alter the function of your musculoskeletal system, it's probably worth it to know the correct application of the tape for your issue(s) before you do something that could potentially create harm.

Most of the tape held on for about a week. Some of it on the back started to come up during the night potential because of perspiration. Many of the ends needed to be tacked down with scrap pieces to be secured throughout the week. However, due to the various strategies we employed to use this tape for pain management therapy, we used nearly the whole roll at a time and most of it stayed right where we put it. Kinesio tape is a great product to use either for training or everyday use, depending on your need. I use it on runs to help with pain and inflammation around my knees....I highly recommend this product, HOWEVER ask your chiropractor or PT as to how and where exactly to use the tape because this is not just a simple athletic tape, it needs to be applied in specific directions with or without tension to achieve the best results.Customer Review: Red Tape

My friend had used other tapes before this tape was recommended by a Physical Therapist, after she had used it on a knee which was receiving treatment. It worked so well --- stayed in place even though it was in an awkward position, where the knee was being bent; it withstood at least one shower -- dried easily afterwards and still kept supporting or "pulling over" the knee cap, which had been injured in a fall.Customer Review: MY PHYSICAL THERAPIST RECOMMENDED

I sprained my right ankle (on top of having plantar fasciitis). This tape is a lot less restricting and encourages movement of the injured parts. I'm glad it's available for the public to purchase and comes in a choice of colors. It's also relatively waterproof. It should also help me in dance. Great Invention!
