As I've had gray hair since I was sixteen (and, of course, more now that I'm older), I've been coloring my hair since my twenties. For a long time I used L'Oreal Excellence in Dark Auburn, but like many do-it-yourself hair coloring systems the shade looked flat and obvious. A few years ago a friend of mine raved about Feria, the more upscale hair colorant by L'Oreal, so I decided to give it a try and picked the Cinnamon shade, described as "bright dark auburn." The first thing I immediately noticed was that the kit included a vial of scent, nice and spicy, that did a great job of covering up the ammonia smell found in most hair colorants. So in it went, I waited, rinsed it out, conditioned, rinsed again, and dried it--and literally stood in front of the mirror with my mouth open. It looked FABULOUS. I had actual highlights and when out in the sun my hair glowed. It looks completely natural and I've had many people comment on my beautiful hair color, having no idea that it's not natural (unless I go for a while without coloring and my roots come in). It looks that good.
The only problem with Cinnamon? It cannot be found in stores anymore, only online. I have used the shade down from it, Brilliant Bourdeaux, but it's not as bright and has a wine tinge to it that looks unnatural, so I am resigned to buying it online. But, as L'Oreal's tag line goes, it's worth it.
