Customer Reviews of LiceGuard Robi Comb Electronic Lice Comb

Customer Review: A valuable tool, but limited. May not be for you.
Summary: 3 Stars

The first thing to keep in mind is that this won't be the only lice product you use. And to be honest we haven't used it much in our family (about halfway through our first lice infestation#, but it can make it easier to cope with the little bugs, especially for inspections.

The reason you'll need other products is one key limitation: this comb does not remove eggs or nits, and at least in our district the school nurse won't allow a child back in school if there are eggs. So you need a good regular comb that's effective against nits anyway.

It makes a high-pitched hum that stops briefly when it comes into contact with lice or nymphs. The sound can also stop briefly for other reasons, such as accidentaly touching the back of darling daughter's ear #ouch!#. The tines are charged, and presumably electrocute the lice; they can also cause a mild shock if you touch them. Having been zapped myself I'd say it's about like the shock you can get from static electricity. The instructions have some warnings; read them and use common sense.

So there's another limitation: you have to use it on dry hair.

I found it a bit difficult to use on my daughter's long hair. My guess is that with short hair it would be easier. The main challenges are keeping the #dry) hair that you've combed separate from the uncombed hair, and getting this rather small comb through every inch of every strand.

Finally, I don't think the box mentions or recommends this, but if you have those creepy tingling sensations that come with knowing there's been a louse in your house, with the Robi-comb you have a way of trying to inspect yourself. Without it, you need a partner you can trust.

To sum up: if you rely on only the Robi-comb to deal with a lice infestation you may be disappointed. But if you use it for the thing it does best: detecting lice and nymphs, you may find it valuable.

Customer Review: Thank you Robi comb for the return of my sanity
Summary: 5 Stars

After 5 days of dealing with lice and quite a few approaches tried I was at the end of my rope. I had treated both my sons, but was still finding nits daily. I had spent at least 10 hours total combing through one of my sons very thick hair. I felt like an expert at spotting nits, but still was coming up with 20 nits each day on the 3rd and 4th day. After inspecting both my girls and my husband and him checking me we thought the rest of us were in the clear. Then I was ready to cry when I saw a louse in my 2 year old daughters curly long hair. She handled the lice free gel treatment like a champ, and the combing, but I could not get her to sit still enough to visually inspect her hair to see if I had all the nits. I couldn't wait the 2 days for prime shipping - picked this up at walgreens in an effort to see if we had the buggers. My husband used it on himself, no hits (Yay!) and then we tried it on our two sons. It had a hit right away - that first night we killed 2 nymphs on on son and 1 adult and 5 nymphs on the other - this is with a RID treatment and combing gel (would NEVER use those toxic nasties again) and daily combing through their entire head - I missed these. With great relief I combed through each of my daughters and myself with no hits. We are using it daily on everyone for at least 2 weeks to make sure we don't have a recurrence and will probably continue to use it weekly for the rest of the school year just in case. Absolutely worth the cost to finally have hope in ending this battle. I also recommend both Lice Freee products and Quit Nits, which are both non-toxic and seemed to work very well. We also bagged up every stuffed toy/pillow that couldn't be washed, vacuumed all furniture and the house several times, washing sheets and towels daily, but I truly never want to go through this again!

Customer Review: Every parent should have one
Summary: 5 Stars

My kids have 5 cousins and they all go to different schools and daycares, then spend time with each other nearly every weekend. Needless to say, when one child gets lice, they all get lice.

Over the summer, the family developed quite an infestation of the little buggers. We all tried Rid, Nix, mayonaise, tea-tree oil, vinegar...you name it. After several months of treating, nit-picking, washing, and vacuuming, nothing worked. Just when you thought you had it under control, one of the kids would pop up with it again and they all had it again.

We were growing quite concerned about the repeated use of pesticides on the kids' heads every ten days. After careful researching, my sister-in-law found a non-toxic shampoo called Lice Freee. It works the same way as the pesticide shampoos, but it actually kills bugs, loosens nits from the hair, and the fumes do not burn the kids' eyes. After one treatment with Lice Freee, and two weeks of daily RobiComb inspections, all lice were gone.

All 7 children in the family are inspected every day after school with the RobiComb. We all find a bug every now and then, but because we find them so quickly, have been able to avoid any nits and infestations in the family.

The family has not had a nit or infestation in nearly 5 months. A pretty remarkable feat considering the schools have sent several warnings of head-lice infestations home to parents since school began. My kids tell me that some of their classmates have missed school because of lice. I immediately call their parents and tell them how we are keeping it away and now, everyone I know with kids has a spare bottle of Lice Freee and a RobiComb.

Best $30 I ever spent.

Customer Review: Great comb to be used as part of your lice treatment program
Summary: 5 Stars

When my daughter brought home lice from school (and also gave it to me), I completely freaked out. The thought of having bugs in our hair and in our house was just disgusting. I scoured the internet, and along with all the scary stories of people having lice for months and even years(!), I found a lot of positive reviews on the Robi-Comb. I decided to add it to our arsenal of lice products.

We did the whole Rid treatment (day one and day 10). We combed with a nit comb/combing gel on day 1 and on several other days in between Rid treatments. During the 10 days, I also combed several days with the Robi-Comb.

On Day 12 (two days after the last Rid treatment), I saw my daughter scratching her head. NOOOOOOO!!!!!! Sure enough, I checked her with the Robi-Comb and found several tiny nymph lice. Even though I thought I had got all of those darn nits, I must have missed some when we did the wet combing.

I used the Robi-Comb very thoroughly that night and got all of the live nymph lice. After that night, I have combed her with the Robi-Comb every day and have found nothing--no live lice, no nits. It's now a week later, and (fingers crossed) we are lice and nit-free.

I truly believe if it weren't for the Robi-Comb, we would be on our way to a reinfestation. I never would have found those tiny nymphs, and they would have just grown and started laying eggs, and then we would be starting the whole process over again.

Just a note--the "humming" or "buzzing" that the manufacturer describes is actually a high-pitched tone. I expected it to have a buzzing sound more like hair clippers, but it is just a straight, high-pitched tone.

Customer Review: Don't waste your money
Summary: 1 Stars

Ok, so my 11 year old brought head lice home over a month ago. I thought I eliminated it when I doused her head in chemicals and then picked it over with one of those fine tooth combs, a head lamp and a pair of scissors to cut the nits out. Several weeks later I found lice in my own hair and in my 3 year old daughters hair as well. I tried every concievable over the counter product I could get my hands on at the local drug store and spent well over a hundred dollars. I purchased this comb yesterday as last ditch effort in case the Coconut oil trick didn't work(more on this in a second). I just used this comb on my 3 year old daughter combing through her entire head. I can still see those evil little nits clinging to her hair so I know they are there but the humming noise this comb makes didn't falter for even a second. I have to say "Don't waste your money" What my experience has told me is to go to the local grocery store get yourself a regular old bottle of olive oil or coconut oil and completely coat your childs head in the oil leaving it overnight. Some suggest placing a shower cap over said head but that seemed pretty dangerous to me so I simply placed an old towel over my kids regular pillows. The following morning just wash thier hair as you would normally do. This stuff really does wash right out. For the first time in over a month my 3 year old is not scratching her head and her hair looks great. I plan to repeat this treatment a few more times just in case. You can find more information on coconut oil head lice treatments online. Save your money and sanity and try this trick first. Experience tells me that those over the counter treatments are worthless and so is this comb.
