Customer Reviews of Listerine Whitening-Instant Dissolving Whitening Strips, 56 Strips (Short Dated)Customer Review: Listerine Adverts Mostly True Summary: 4 Stars
Pros: Acceptable taste; easy to apply; no mess no fuss
Cons: Difficult opening individual strips; ignore 5-10min application guidance; keep on 20min but just go on about what you want to do and forget it (except don't have anything to eat or drink while waiting for them to dissolve). You'll get used to it after the first couple of days.
The Bottom Line: Effective dental product lives up to its promises. Give it three days at least before final decision. Your application time may vary. Be ready to fight the packaging.

As a 60 year old, I've never used whitening strips prior to this purchase. I did not want to be bothered with the mess and time consumption that many people described to me and what the directions on other products indicated. Even on the day I asked the dental assistant and hygienist about the products they described how they worked including what sounded like a cumbersome application and removal process, but they never mentioned products that you can apply in seconds and forget.
I was turned off again by the explanations except that the next time I was at a Malwart's Pharmacy I looked at the displays just to read the descriptions and check prices. The $23.97 price for 56 strips was a stick shocker but it was still in my mind that I was having to pay $80 for a cleaning every 4-6 months because I am a coffee and tea drinker. Since I floss and brush daily I knew that I could cut the visits if I could find a way to keep my teeth looking better.
Then I spotted the Listerine package and it just sounded so darn easy despite the price. Plus, now I have learned that there are other vendors who are cheaper. So, I plunked down the greenbacks and brought them home where they sat for two weeks. Eventually, I realized that despite putting another type of chemical in my mouth I would have to fulfill my dental destiny and not waste the money spent.
I should not have hesitated. The application and use is as easy as described. The only exception is that the 5-10 minutes dissolving time is misleading. The small print will tell you that time varies for each person. Mine take 20 minutes so I am assuming that the five minute people have acidic saliva like the alien that went after Sigourney Weaver.
Note that you have to read the directions. I believe that some who dislike the product are reading them so they do not understand that there is a notch in the strip that tells you which side to apply to the teeth. Also, DO NOT put it over the gums. It has to be positioned so that the edge just meets the gum line without touching it. Otherwise, if you have sensitive gums, they will feel irritated.
There is a slight taste and stickiness feeling but after the second use it is not distracting and you get used to it. You may want to rinse your mouth or brush your teeth after the strip completely dissolves but it's not necessary really.
The only complaint I have is that each individual strip is packaged in a plastic like aluminum sealed container the size of a band-aid. Getting it open is as fun as opening a packaged CD. A few times I have torn part of the strip especially when taking it out of the package. Also, it's so clear that sometimes you can't tell where it is. It is surprising that they've dropped the ball (or the spittle in this case).
As for effectiveness, it lived up to its promise. I noticed the difference after about five days and after two weeks I was very satisfied. I will have to keep the animal magnetism under control when I'm around the ladies now.
