Customer Reviews of Litebook Elite Hand-Held Light Therapy Device

Customer Review: Cured my sleep problems
Summary: 5 Stars

I had this problem for the past couple of years where I would not be able to sleep between the hours of 10pm and 3am. So I would end up falling asleep usually between 3-4am. Since I would have to get up at 730am for work I would end up getting 4 hours or less of sleep a night. This would result in me getting home from work around 5pm dog tired. I wouldn't feel like working out or doing much else. Often I would fall asleep around 6pm for a couple of hours. On the weekends I would fall asleep around 4am and sleep until 2 in the afternoon. I hated the whole pattern. If you're too tired to do anything it messes up your whole life. I tried the melatonin pills but those didn't work to well for me. I had these spacey dreams and this spacey feeling just before I fell asleep but that was it.

It is amazing how well the litebook worked for my sleeping problems. I got it in April and I use it for about a half hour in the morning while eating my breakfast and reading the news on my computer. The first thing you notice is that it gives you a kind of pick me up in the morning. I use it every day during the week, and sometimes on the weekends if I get up early enough, since you are supposed to use it at about the same time each day. It took a couple of weeks for it to start helping my sleep. I began getting sleepy around 11pm instead of around 300am. It's been almost four months and I really notice a change. I don't slack off at work as much anymore. I'm in better shape since I exercise more -- I don't blow it off because I'm too tired.

I will say that in addition to the litebook I also did a couple of other things to help with my sleep. 1. I cut out all caffeine. No coffee or soft drinks or anything that has it. 2. Really limited my drinking of alcohol. I noticed that if I had more than two drinks in a day it would disturb my sleep. Three or four drinks would lead to noticeably less restful sleep. More than that, and if not hungover, I would feel a little rundown and beat.

In the end I will have to say I am totally happy with this product. It helped me take care of a major problem in my life. It's amazing how having screwed up sleeping patterns drags the rest of your life down. Now I pretty much consider myself cured.

Customer Review: Excellent portable light therapy - eligible for FSA spending
Summary: 5 Stars

It's amazing that in almost 3 years, it hasn't dropped more than a dollar in price - but it's worth it. I bought mine in January, 2008 and I find it helpful to use in the morning for energy and mood. Light therapy doesn't work for all folks, which is why you will frequently see some excellent reviews, and some poor reviews. Take it with a grain of salt and read the content of the reviews.

I love this device because it's portable. I usually leave it plugged in on my desk at home, but I'll grab it and let it run on battery when I spend an overnight. I tend to use it only in the fall and winter (in Minnesota it gets dark early!) and if it came with a carry case, I've long since lost it -- but you don't really need it. It's got a cover which doubles as the base stand to angle it properly. Since it's LED, it uses very little energy, but even with the prisms, it's fairly directed light. You need to point it at your face, a little bit offset, for it to work.

Oh, and I got my physician to write a prescription for me 'ordering' light therapy, and then I could submit my receipt to my FSA (healthcare flexible spending account) for reimbursement, so it was like getting a huge discount on it. If you're trying to figure out how to spend down your FSA at the end of the year, this is a good investment.

I would buy it again if mine broke, but it's still going strong three years later.

Customer Review: Great Product
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had this product for three winters and what a difference it does make.

Better energy levels in the fall and winter months. I start using the product in the mornings in October and wean off in March after the time changes. I thought using in the mornings and after work would produce the best results but found only using it only once in the morning is better for some reason.

For side effects, the first day I use this in the fall, I definitely feel a little different, I can't quite explain the feeling, it's not a bad feeling but kind of an agitation or heightened alertness, same but not as bad on the second day. After about five to seven days of use I defiantly felt more energy and within one to two weeks felt like I normally would in the feel good warmer months on the year. You then have more of a desire to do things in life which alleviates the depressive thoughts.

Product holds charge for about an hour or works when plugged in. Travel size and case are perfect especially when spending time away from home on the holidays in winter. People that never have seen one of these devices may get curious but that's a good chance to talk about the winter blues.

Customer Review: A lot of light in a small package
Summary: 5 Stars

This provides great focused light. Unlike the big light boxes, which will light up an entire room, I can focus this light directly on my face without making the entire room seem like I'm living on the sun. The litebook is very lightweight, so it can be carried anywhere. Plus, it has its own carrying case, and it fits in a large purse, briefcase or tote bag. I have been using this for six months, and I love it. I take it with me when I'm working on my pc, reading, sit it next to me when I'm trying to wake up and shine it right on my face. I am able to look into it with no threat of hurting my eyes; the light is very intense and shines right through my eyelids.

This device's charge doesn't last more than an hour when on, but it can be used with the power cord and can be charged up in no time. The price for this and all the other light devices/boxes are way too expensive.

Learning how to set the timer does require a bit of a learning curve, but once I read the instructions a few times and practiced on the litebook, I was able to get it right. Now that I can use the timer correctly, I'm glad there aren't separate buttons for it, because it is so simple to use as is.

Customer Review: I've seen the light.
Summary: 5 Stars

Because I suffer from S.A.D., I've looked at light-therapy lights every year. However, I've always been hesitant to spend so much for something that I was skeptical about. I opted to use a prescription medication to help with my symptoms. They never seemed to really help though. Using a gift certificate I received for Christmas, I purchased a Litebook Elite Hand-Held Light Therapy Device just a week ago. It has been nothing short of a miracle for me. I used to stay up all night with insomnia finally going to bed, totally exhausted around 5-6 AM. I would sleep until the afternoon only to arise still exhausted and achy all over. It would take me an hour just to gather myself for the day. I started using this light the day it arrived. I use it for 30 minutes right after waking. In just a short week, my sleep schedule has totally changed. I am now able to go to bed at 10 PM, fall asleep quickly, restfully sleep through the night, and awaken at 6 AM totally refreshed. I sincerely hope that if you purchase this light you will have the same results I did. I feel like I have a new life!
