Customer Reviews of MANGROOMER Do-It-Yourself Electric Back Hair ShaverCustomer Review: Better than advertised Summary: 5 StarsThis thing uses two double-A batteries and is extremely light. The blade is similar to the trimmer blade on my electric shaver, but wider to cover more area. The handle folds the unit into a shape I can easily store in the below sink cabinet and the result of the shave, though not completely smooth, is that I no longer have what amount to a mat on my back. And frankly, I don't think I'd want it to be any closer. On the occasions my wife has actually shaved the hair down to the skin, I've been pretty uncomfortable with the resulting sharp hairs that surface a few days later. The device also works well for other body parts, but I don't think I'd be trying to trim anything too personal.
Customer Review: I'm impressed! :-) Summary: 5 StarsFor a shaver to be made to reach the back hair, (I think it may even be close to 3 feet long when I fully used the handle) this is a job well done.
Customer Review: Fantastic item Summary: 5 StarsThe reach of this shaver is impressive and I love the big rubber grip. Best to shave from different angles and always try to go against the direction of the hair. It takes about 5-10 minutes for a complete job, but can also do a quickie in 3-5 if in a rush and running out. Will recommend and would buy again.
Customer Review: Best invention for mankind. Summary: 5 StarsIf I knew about this a few months ago, I would have bought 20 of them and yes, I hate my back hair that much. It is a very good design and suprisingly light and easy to reach every inch of your back. I recommend using it in front of a mirror the first few times to get the hang of it and hit every spot.
Customer Review: With a little patience this product will deliver Summary: 4 StarsI decided to purchase this product after coming to the conclusion that having my back hair professionally removed (i.e., by electrolysis or laser treatment) would simply not be worth the cost. I don't have a very thick layer of hair on my back, so I thought a do-it-yourself product such as the Mangroomer might handle my unwanted hair very nicely.
Thankfully, I was right.
The first time I used the Mangroomer I was somewhat disappointed. As many other reviewers have noted, the construction of the shaver is flimsy and it's not as sturdy as most would hope. While it folds up nicely into a compact size, it does look fairly cheap. In addition, the blade itself is not very wide, so it takes longer to shave than seems practical. As far as performance, I was not so impressed at first because it took a very long time for me to remove most of my hair, and I don't even have a very think layer on my back. It also doesn't extend quite as far as I had expected, so reaching some of the most difficult areas of the back (particularly the lower-middle area) can be quite a nuisance. However, even though it was time-consuming initially, I did manage to remove most of my hair and it looked noticeably smooth and clean post-shave.
Since then, I've experimented with my shaving technique and I've cut down the overall time it takes to shave by a third, from about 30 minutes to 20 minutes. I also have virtually no redness/irritation, and I find that I only need to shave once a month to keep my back nearly hairless. It won't remove your hair entirely (like shaving with a razor would), but it does remove nearly all of the hair. I've been impressed by how good it looks, and I've been really happy that I've had such good results at a fraction of the cost of a professional treatment.
I definitely recommend this product if you're willing to be patient in learning how to use it correctly and if you do not have a significant amount of hair. I don't think the Mangroomer would be strong enough to remove thick layers of hair, but it's managed to rid of my hair quite easily and effectively.
