Customer Review: Heck of a Bargain

This past winter I was diagnosed with a rather sudden onset of Otoschlerosis, a hardening of the tiny bones inside the ear that transfer sound waves from the ear drum to the nerves. I felt as if my ear was clogged full of fluid, or that I had just been on an airplane and couldn't equalize the ear. The Otologist said that surgery would be an option, but not until the hearing loss was more profound. It seemed pretty profound to me already! A year or two, he said. Try a hearing aid in the meanwhile, he said.
Since my need for a hearing aid would not be permanent, I thought I'd try something inexpensive. Searching around I found reference to the Acoustitone Pro here on Amazon and was amazed at the positive reviews I read. I took the very minor $$$ plunge and bought one. INSTANTLY the sense of over pressurization I had felt in my ear was gone as the sweet music of high frequency sound flowed in for the first time in months. My mind had misidentified my high frequency hearing loss as internal pressure. What a relief! In addition to curing that sense of constant pressure, I could now hear better, of course. Conversation, TV watching all became much easier.
The device does have its limitations, but who would expect otherwise at this unbelievable price point? It "clips" at loud sounds. Clipping is a form of audible distortion that occurs when a small audio amplifier is over driven, much like the sound you get when you turn the volume up too high on a small battery powered radio. I am a singer and find that the sound of my own voice, either yelling or singing, will cause the device to clip. Also certain very loud environments do the same. Turning its volume down helps in such an environment. Feedback is also an occasional issue, and has to do with how well the device fits into the ear. I may have a custom ear plug made that provides a better seal. It's a very minor issue, though.
A bought a second one so that I wouldn't have to go without if I lost or damaged mine...so inexpensive, why not?
