Customer Reviews of Mabis Dmi Healthcare Rubber Water Bottle, Red, OneCustomer Review: Splurge on the cover, not the bottle. This one works and the price is great. Summary: 5 Stars
Couldn't find my 15+ year old hot water bottle for a while and cold toes motivated me to purchase this one while I kept looking. Compared to my old bottle:
This bottle is made of thinner material and is slightly smaller. Being thinner makes it more flexible, to wrap better around my toes. This also makes it potentially messier to fill, the opening lip keeps wanting to occlude the filling hole. Haven't noticed a difference in how long the water stays hot.
The opening for filling is smaller and the screw to close the bottle is plastic. You must fill the bottle with a slower stream of water to avoid splashing, but that's not a big deal. The screw requires me to actually look at what I am doing, but it has held up with no leaks.
This bottle is also a tiny bit narrower and shorter than my old one. They say they hold the same amount of water and I think that is due to this one being more flexible. It can get fatter than my old one.
Yes, there is a smell to the materials, but it is the smell all new rubberish materials have. Or am I the only one old enough to remember? Anyway, the smell does diminish significantly in time. This arrives new, sealed in plastic from the factory, and the smell is strong when first opened. But it does diminish.
Over all, I am thrilled with this water bottle, especially when you factor in the price. Yes, I know they are now making "fashion" hot water bottles, for over double the price, but REALLY!!! If you want fashion, then get a cute cover. You don't hold a "naked" hot water bottle. You are going to wrap it in something or get a cover for it. Even for my toes I use a cover. Splurge on the cover, but don't waste your money on the bottle. For what it is, this is a functional item at a truly fantastic price and I definitely recommend it.
Customer Review: Stinky but Effective Summary: 4 Stars
I love this bottle, despite its smelliness. It definitely does not have the rubber odor I remember from childhood, nor from a smaller bottle I have. It's more chemical-y. I washed it a few times with soap (it let out a lot of dye) and the smell has significantly dissipated.
Having said that, it works beautifully, and it's very reasonably priced! I was a little worried over the thinness of the bottle, but it makes it more practical, as I can "drape" it over my feet or shoulders, unlike the other bottle I have that is stiffer.
The rubber bottle is nice and big, taking up to 2 quarts of hot water, keeping it warm through the night, so you can soothe away sore muscles or keep your bed nice and toasty. Just be careful with the temperature of the water, as while you are pouring it into the bottle, it may "bubble" back and splatter you.
I don't just use it on myself, but on my cats as well! Either as pet bed warmers or directly on one of them (my oldest and senior cat - for stiff joints - I wrapped a towel around it, and propped it against his back and hind legs). They love the heat!
Customer Review: I really enjoyed these this winter! Summary: 4 Stars
I ordered 4 of these hotwater bottles for my sister who was visiting from Greece and she wanted to take them back with her. She gets painfully cold feet in the winter and fails to sleep because of them. The hot water bottles arrived just as the record breaking freeze hit North Texas this year. The hotwater bottles were put to immediate use and they were awesome! All my visiting guests enjoyed them. I used a funnel to fill them up with ease. We filled them up just a little over half way and removed excess air before closing the bottle and this worked great. There is a faint rubber smell but it is not offensive and it is actually quite nice. I told my guests who were using them about the negative comments made about the smell and they were so surprised that we came to the conclusion that there must be saboteurs out there or our noses may not be as refined. My sister took all 4 water bottles back to Greece with her so I now have to order 4 for my household. It was so cozy to sit and chat in the evening while hugging a hotwater bottle that it will be a new family holiday tradition!
Customer Review: even needed in Florida... Summary: 5 Stars
I bought one of these hot water bottles after suffering through a miserable week of cold with no indoor heating. (in the 30F and 40Fs in South Florida!) I grew up using these in the UK, but could not find them in the stores in Florida - surprise - - so ordered online. I was pretty sceptical as to whether it would be the same quality that I remembered back yonder so I only paid for regular shipping. But it arrived quickly and I'm really pleased with it. I filled it up with boiling hot water at 10pm and amazingly it was still luke warm when I woke this morning. Just ordered 3 more (so other people dont keep stealing mine). Some reviews mentioned the rubber smell but rubber hot water bottles are meant to smell like that and I find it nostalgic not offensive. Even after Florida warms up again, I can see using these regularly for my back etc. Its a real comfort thing, right up there with hot apple pie...
Customer Review: A pain to fill up Summary: 2 Stars
Having grown up in Germany where bedrooms are/were not really heated I've always been used to using a hot water bootle in the winter. It's unfortunate these aren't more widely used as they keep you comfortable at much lower temperatures at night. As such, I would even say this is a "green" product.
Anyway, this was the first hot wate bottle we bought in the States, and the one big downfall is that the fill hole is so small that it takes quite a while to fill up and you risk scalding your hands. With a family of five, this can become quite arduous...
Like the other reviewers said, it does also smell very rubbery, but I think so do all these products. Hey, it's made from natural rubber!
Haven't found a good alternative here, so we just bought a few with nice large fill holes during a visit to Germany.
