Customer Reviews of Malem Ultimate Bedwetting Alarm - Blue 1 Tone w/VibrationCustomer Review: after 4 weeks ... Summary: 3 Stars
we've put in 4 weeks with this. our 5-yo son is not yet getting up on his own. the materials do say it can take up to 12 weeks. so far, it seems to be training him to hold it until morning, if anything. that's better than nothing i suppose.
i mostly wanted to comment on the design / price of the unit. the main module itself feels very strong and well built, but to be honest i still feel a little ripped off for paying almost $100 for this thing. technically, the design couldn't be simpler. moisture makes an electrical connection that activates the alarm. has to be a huge profit margin.
a fatal flaw is the jack that connects the sensor to the unit. it's a smaller version of a telephone plug, with the little tab that locks it in. on the first week, we broke off the tab. it's easy to do. the tab sticks out and easily gets hung up on things like bedding or clothing and snaps off. so a $0.05 plug ruins a $100 purchase. i just checked and the sensor replacement is $26 (including shipping). pfft. we'll probably continue to tape the cord in place.
that all being said, it's hard to put a price one having dry sheets in the morning. i might not be complaining about the price and broken plug if that was the case.
Customer Review: Love this product! Summary: 5 Stars
I love this product. My son is 7 and was still wetting the bed every night. When we tried just letting him sleep in underwear instead of pullups thinking that would wake him up, he would still wet the bed and sleep thru it. This product works wonderfully. It took about 2 weeks and now my son has started getting up in the night to go to the bathroom. I am so excited...no more pullups! We started out with a baby monitor in his room so I could hear when the alarm went off but soon removed it because he would just come into our room once it went off. I would turn it off, he would use the bathroom, we'd change underwear (highly recommend the suggestion of wearing a pullup over underwear to prevent changing sheets...worked great), reset the alarm, and he'd go right back to bed. The alarm is very loud and with the vibration, there was no way he wasn't going to wake up. There was no need for me to sleep in his room since he would just come get me when it went off. It was rough for the first few days. Especially the night he got up 3 times (I felt like I had an infant again!) but it was definitely worth it for him to be out of pullups. Highly recommend this product.
Customer Review: It Really Works!! Totally worth the money!! Summary: 5 Stars
Words cannot describe how much our family loves this product! Especially my 10 year old daughter who wet the bed every night because she was such a heavy sleeper. I saw this alarm on the Today Show one morning and started asking about it at my local stores. To my surprise they are not available at any local pharmacy or store. I researched online and finally broke down and bought one. The cost of it I thought was high, especially if it did not work. My daughter was so excited to get it but I forgot to order it in pink and got blue. She got over that fast. She woke up about 3 times a night by the alarm (very sensitive to dampness, which is great!)and I was there to change her absorbent pad protector for the bed and she would change her clothes. It took a couple of weeks for her to reduce the times she had wet and then she just had very small episodes. After about 4 weeks she was dry every night and after 2 weeks of being dry we put the alarm in storage. She has not had a relapse yet! It has been 5 months now and she is so happy she can go on sleepovers. It was worth every penny, and more!
Customer Review: It WORKS!! Summary: 4 Stars
My daughter will be 7 next month. She has woke up soaking wet almost every night of her life. She is an extremely sound sleeper, so we were concerned she wouldn't wake up with this alarm. We decided to try it though, as the reviews were so positive. This product works great! The first two nights the alarm went off, around 4 or 5 in the morning and it scared her and us awake. After that she went a full week waking up dry. We had a few setbacks when we put her down comforter on the bed a week later. Suddenly the alarm was going off twice in the night, as early as 11 p.m. I thought at least once it was due to her sweating from the comforter, but the other times she definitely urinated a little. She is back to waking up dry and we are on our third week. She likes it and wants it to work for her. Her goal is to try without a pull-up after she goes another week dry. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is due to the cost, even though it is $100.00 well spent. It just seems like with other technology coming down in price, this could be a lot cheaper and available to more people.
Customer Review: KT plus 4 Summary: 5 Stars
Our 8 yr. old son WAS a bed "flooder" even with a pull up on. I was washing his sheets several times a week because he leaked. It got to the point that even he was frustrated with the situation. I hesitated spending the $100 on an alarm hoping that he would outgrow the wetting but when he told me that he "hated" waking up wet then I knew it was time to buy. He has been wearing the alarm for three weeks now and has been dry for two weeks. The first 10 days he still tinkled but the alarm woke him and he got up to finish in the bathroom. He wore underpants with a pull up over them for that period but now he only wears the alarm with his underpants and he is sleeping through the night w/o waking to pee. He has been independent at managing the alarm which has been nice. Our 5 yr. old is still a bed wetter and I plan to use the alarm with her as well when she is old enough to manage it. Overall, I highly recommend this alarm. I can't comment about the less expensive alarms as I have not tried them, but I can say that this has been well worth the big price tag.
