Customer Review: Hooray for dry nights!
Summary: 5 Stars

We worked with our 6 year old son for two years to get him to stay dry at night with no success. Thought maybe the pullups were keeping him from learning, so we ditched them. For six months before we bought the alarm, I got up every two hours during the night to wrangle our son into the bathroom. He was a deep sleeper and would get up only with a lot of effort and then be disoriented, confused, and occassionally very unhappy. Even with all that, our number of accidents per week was pretty high, and always involved changing the sheets in the middle of the night, which also disrupted the sleep of his older brother who shared the same room. Plus, I was exhausted all the time.

We read a pamphlet in the pediatrician's office that suggested using an alarm to help with the learning process, so I looked into it and found great reviews here on Amazon. I figured if it worked, it would be well worth the cost.

Right away, there was a dramatic improvement in our quality of life, since I only had to get up when my son was wet and not every couple of hours. I had my doubts about it, but going back to pull-ups meant that I didn't have to change sheets in the middle of the night, so that was great for all of us, too. For the first week, there wasn't much change. He was still having 2 or 3 accidents each night, and I had to help him get up when the alarm went off. (And my older son who shared a room with him was very upset each time the alarm went off.) I began to think this method wasn't going to work for us. Like MAGIC on the 8th night he had one real accident at midnight, but was dry until 5:30am (!) and THEN he stopped himself, when I came in to wake him up, and went to the potty to finish!

Halfway through week 2 he got up before the alarm went off and went potty by himself. He had his first completely dry night in the middle of week 3. We had two more nights without accidents at the end of week 4, and some more in week 5. By the end of week 5 he had started staying dry all night without getting up to potty. By week 6, I'd say he had learned to stay dry at night.

He was dry all through week 8, so we stopped having him wear pull-ups, but continued with the alarm. He was dry through week 9 also, so we started alternating nights with and without the alarm. He stayed dry through week 10, too, and we were going on vacation for week 11, so we decided to leave the alarm behind. He had an accident the first night in the hotel, but was dry for the rest of the vacation and has been dry since we got home.

We're now in week 12 and he's been able to stay dry by himself for two weeks! This product made everyday life better for my whole family!

Customer Review: A dry night after just one week!
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm so pleased with the results of this alarm that I'm inspired to write my first-ever review. Bought this for my son who will be 6 next month and had never had a dry night in his life. We started using it a week ago. The very first night it went off immediately after he fell asleep, and I thought, oh boy, this is going to be rough!! Nights 1-5 the alarm went off two or three times during the night, night #6 it went off only once at 6am, and then last night HE WOKE ME UP AT 2AM AND TOLD ME HE HAD TO GO! No alarm! The same thing happened at 6AM :-) I was mentally prepared for it to take several weeks before he had a dry night and now I could not be happier. He was so pleased too and obviously proud of himself.

I found out about these types of alarms after reading Richard Bennett's book, Waking Up Dry, and highly recommend the book to anyone contemplating using the alarm. No need to buy it, you can get it out of the library. The book advocates using an alarm and there are a lot of helpful suggestions in it. I read aloud certain sections to my son (how and why the body makes urine, how the alarm works, etc.) and I'm sure that this helped. The alarm works by training the brain over time to wake up whenever the child needs to urinate, but it has some immediate benefits too. Previously he slept in Underjams and pajamas, but at least once a week the Underjams would leak and result in soaked bedding. So on advice from some Amazon reviewers, I put the alarm on his underwear, with Underjams over those, and so only had to change the underwear when the alarm went off, because there was very little urine, and we have not had to deal with a wet bed for a week.

A couple of other suggestions: every night before bed I quizzed him on what he had to do whenever the alarm sounds (1: stop the flow, 2: unclip the underwear clamp, 3: press the button on the unit to turn off the alarm and 4: go to the bathroom and finish). I slept in his room every night in case he didn't hear the alarm or forgot what to do. Good thing too, because he would have been too groggy to make it to the bathroom himself, not to mentioned frightened of the dark. Oh, and the alarm is LOUD. I set it to vibrate + sound, and put a little piece of scotch tape over the speaker on the unit and it was still plenty loud enough to wake us.

According to the book, the child is not "cured" until they are dry for two weeks straight as well as another two-week potential regression period. So we have a ways to go. But there's no doubt in my mind we will get there!

*UPDATE* Still dry, no regression yet. He's been dry 5 nights in a row so far. Simply amazing!!

Customer Review: WISH I HAD BOUGHT IT YEARS BEFORE!
Summary: 5 Stars

I can't say enough about this product! When I first saw it and saw the price I was thinking, this is a lot of money to spend and how could this possibly work!?! I took the plunge and got it despite my skeptism. I was getting ready to have a new baby, while my current baby (8years old) was still wetting the bed, as had his relatives before him did. I had tried everything you can imagine and nothing, nothing, nothing worked!! I even got the perscription from the Dr. to help with bladder control... and that didn't work. He slept on our floor for weeks on end, where I would wake him up every 2 hours to pee and he would STILL wake up wet! I was desperate to find something that would work so that he could do sleep overs, have the self confidence and I didn't want 2 kids in diapers!
It took 3 almost 4 weeks for this product to work. Week 2 I honestly thought, it was not working. He would wake up to the alarm, but he would have already peed his bed by the time he made it to me to change his undies and repin him. Night after night it was the same, but it would happen less and less until one night he never came in. He had woken up and taken it off himself and never woke me or put it back on... I thought, ok now he knows how to get out of it! But I still put it on him every night and it would still wake him up. So, after having 3 dry nights I realized that this little gadget was actualy training his brain to recognize when he had a full bladder and needed to pee. He had one full week of dry and we went out to celebrate... the next week he would have 1 or 2 wet nights and then suddenly he was never wet again!!! I swear!!! Its been almost 3mo now and still NOT 1 WET NIGHT!!!! If it wouldn't embarress him to death, I would scream it to the hill tops that this is the best product in the world. Yes, its expensive, but just think about ALLLLL THE MONEY you will SAVE on Pull Ups! Its worth every single penny and you can't put a price on their new found confidence. Don't think twice, just buy this product. I am a mom of three boys with a family history of bed wetters and moms that have tried it all... This is THE ONLY PRODUCT THAT HAS EVER WORKED! My son loved the ARMY one and would brag to his older brother about it and the neighbors...lol!

Customer Review: Utterly Amazing!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

My son is 7 and has had problems with wetting. He wasn't even dry during the day until 6. We went to a children's hospital and tried medicine for a while. Nothing worked. They said, "Some electrical connection just hadn't been made to get the message to his brain that he was wetting himself". He didn't just wet a little at night. He soaked diaper pants. Also, there was no pattern to his wetting. Sometimes it was within an hour of going to sleep. When we got the Alarm it was difficult at first. He wet the bed every night and often more than once. We learned to put a crib pad under his sheet on top of the queen size pad so we could just change the top sheet and crib pad on the first accident. We kept records and the times were different every night. The first week he had between one and three accidents every night. The second week he had only one accident a night every night. The third week he had accidents 4 nights and woke up on his own to go to the rest room 3 nights. The fourth week he was dry Sun. and Mon., had an accident on Tues. and has been dry every night since then. He sleeps completely through the night. We quit having him wear the timer after a couple more weeks and I'm not sure how long it has been now but it is UTTERLY AMAZING to me! If I had any idea he could sleep through the night dry within 4 weeks I would have bought this a LONG time ago. He is so self confident and won't have to worry anymore on sleepovers. It is well worth the money.

Customer Review: The only thing that has worked!
Summary: 5 Stars

This alarm is wonderful! My son is 6 1/2 years old and is a very deep sleeper. We have tried many different techniques to wake him, and help him stay dry and nothing has worked, until now. This alarm is very effective. My son is able to pin it onto his shirt himself, and secure the clip onto his underpants with no problem at all. The first couple of nights I think the sounds confused him more than anything, because the alarm is waking him out of a deep sleep. In fact, we came to realize that he was actually wetting in his bed 2-3 times each night as that was how many times the alarm woke us up for the first few days. He has been using the alarm for 8 of the 12 weeks that it suggests and has been totally dry and waking himself up when he has to use the bathroom for almost 40 days. I have followed the advice of other reviews that I have read, and we are following the directions of the alarm EXACTLY. That seems to have made this easier. Also, it says that after 2 weeks of being dry, you can start to use the alarm every other day, and gradually taper off. To help my sons confidence issues and make sure that he is over his bedwetting, we have decided to continue him wearing the alarm for the full 12 weeks. It has really been a great experience for my son. He is happy to be nearing the end of the 12 weeks, much more confident, and knows that once he is dry, he gets to pick out a new sheet and blanket set! Thank you Malem for a terrific product!!
