Customer Review: KEEP THE LOVIN' ALIVE!

This is a relationship saver. Let's say your lover snores. Let's say, for the sake of this story, that he's a forty-something handsome guy with a morning beard growth that feels like bee-stingers on your face. Let's say you love him in the daylight, but when you go to bed, fall asleep and then wake up at four in the morning to what sounds like a LEAF BLOWER IN YOUR BED you pretty much want to divorce him. You lie awake (while he's happily running power tools through the power of his nose/throat magic) thinking about a nice condo downtown with glass walls, a clean bathroom that no one but you uses, and NO ONE MAKING A RUCKUS IN YOUR BED!
At this point you have two choices: Leave the nice guy who makes seriously disturbing electric garden-tool noises in his sleep. Or figure out how to block out the noise. (Don't move into another bedroom or onto the couch. You need that pheromone bonding while you sleep in order to keep the magic alive!)
I tried earplugs. Didn't work. I tried pillows over my head. Didn't work. I tried kicking him in his beautiful, beefy, hairy thighs. Worked for about ten seconds.
And then I tried the Marpac SleepMate. It has kept me out of the condo market. Seriously.
(I should disclose, however, that on nights when he seems to be running the leaf blower WITH the power saw WHILE WHISTLING, I combine the Marpac with earplugs--Amazing!)
Customer Review: Great White Noise Machine

I live on the first floor in an apartment with what seems to be paper thin walls and flooring. I have very noisy neighbors and constantly hear footsteps, water running, and various other outside noises.
This white noise machine works great at minimizing distractions and helping to have more peaceful sleep. Also helps to drown out noise in my own apartment if I am having a conversation that I want to ensure that no one else hears.
It took me about a week to get used to it so be prepared for that when you first get it. I keep mine on the low setting with the top all the way open and the sides all the way closed. This seems optimum to me. Keep in mind on the high setting with all of the vents fully wide open, this thing can get loud. I don't see how anyone can sleep with it on that setting but I'm sure some people do...
I still hear footsteps but what is great about this machine is that you end up concentrating on the white noise while sleeping so you are not suddenly woken up by loud noises. It does an excellent job of blocking out sounds such as TVs, music, talking, and water running.
It is pricy but I think this is a must if you live in an apartment. Also the SleepMate and SoundScreen models are the exact same thing just different labels. I believe the SleepMate is marketed towards consumers and the SoundScreen is marketed towards businesses.

We live in a suburban area with very inconsiderate neighbors. We have small lots but these individuals think they are on 10 country acres. Just to let you know what we face 365 days of the year we have: a barking dog at 5:30 AM in the winter, spring summer or fall, loud summer pool parties until midnight every Saturday and Sunday, kids yelling outside all hours of the summer nights, neighbor blasting music in his garage any hour of the day, basketball games that are too loud and go way to late in the night. We have a 3 year old who has been raised with a sound machine becuase of these circumstances. We needed a new solution as our Vornado fan (that we have used to block out inconsiderate people) is no longer working and our daughters white noise machine has worn out (sound chip is failing). I discovered this SleepMate on Amazon and purchased it to see if the reviews held true. Using this product for 3 nights so far and it has been excellent. The sound is soothing and does provide a "consistent" noise - as opposed to the loops of other sound machines. We have just returned again to Amazon and have purchased 2 more. Very good, excellent solution, wish we discovered this sooner! My heart goes out to all of the other customers who are using this product for inconsiderate neighbors. I chose this product for the same reason you're probably going to - a huge number of reviews, almost all of them positive. (I'm not sure I've ever seen so many reviews for a product before).
We recently moved to a ground floor apartment on a fairly quiet road. Before buying this, my wife was being woken up by the few cars that drove past in the night; and I was being woken by our upstairs neighbor's TV (he seems to sometimes go to sleep with it on) and his plumbing (he gets up about an hour before me). After buying this (and we now use it every night) my wife is no longer woken by the cars and I can't hear the TV upstairs. I was a little concerned about buying a mechanical device, but we've had it about two months now and its working great. We experimented before buying this with a normal fan. The fan worked fine, but we didn't want that oin the winter.
Where this device doesn't work for me is more low pitched noise - I'm still woken once a week by the garbage truck when its stopped outside the apartment building with its engine idling.
We bought the 980A, and use it on the low setting, so we could probably have gotten away with the cheaper unit. But its comforting to know we can raise the white noise threshold if we ever need to, so I don't consider it wasted money.
(Four stars instead of five because this is my first white noise generator).
Customer Review: Noise level is JUST RIGHT, and sound is perfect!!!

This machine is a godsend and well worth the money for the peaceful, uninterrupted sleep (especially at naptime) it has given my infant son!!! I think the sound is the perfect kind of white noise. The best comparison I can think of is that it sounds like the ceiling fan in a home bathroom. It "whooshes" like a fan.
I debated getting this for my baby's room after reading all the conflicting reviews about whether this was too loud or too soft. Now I can give my opinion, which is that I find the volume to be just right on the maximum setting. If I used it on the lower settings, I don't think it would block noises like our dog barking well enough. On the other hand, if it were much louder, it might be disturbing to sleepers. I think it is just the right volume for a baby's room. Note: I turn this on when we first come into his room for bedtime, before settling down in the glider for milk and rocking; otherwise turning it on right before I put him down might startle him when he is sleepy. Once it is on, though, he clearly doesn't notice it at all.
We brought this with us on a recent trip, and I'm so glad I did, because it even masked all the "hallway noise" in the hotel. If we ever forget to turn this on before naptime, he often wakes too soon and will not go back to sleep. In other words, I don't know how I ever lived without this machine. I LOVE IT!!!
