I got this to drown out the sound of my husband snoring and I love it, if he really gets cranked up I can still hear him but it is muffled. Low normal snoring is completely drowned out. It also drowns out everything outside I never hear our dogs when they bark. It is really easy to get use to the noise, it is kind of like a fan blowing on high without the air blowing on you, it does have a small adjustment but I leave mine on high all the time. I freeze in the winter so I was worried about using a fan to drown him out because I didn't want to have the fan blowing on me all the time. I would definitely recommend it, this has made my sleep much better before I bought this I was sleeping on the couch most nights now I get to stay in the bed.Customer Review: This little machine makes all the difference in the world.....

This is my second purchase of the same item in one year, and I love them! I am a flight attendant for a major international airline and this machine makes it possible to finally be able to get plenty of sleep "on demand" either at home or away on trips....I bought two so I don't have to unpack and re-pack them all the time, and am finally able to get the sleep our crazy careers demand....it is a life saver. Got the first one for living in an apartment complex and the second one for travel in hotels. They are totally portable, with adjustable sound levels so if you need to use alarms, they won't be drowned out by the machine....love them, they have saved my sanity either at home or on the road!Customer Review: Last Forever!

I have a model 454 that must be at least 30 years old, and it keeps on going. I've tried electric white noise makers over the years, but they just aren't the same. Can't really explain why, they just aren't. When mine finally conks out, I'm definitely going to get another one! I live in a noisy area, a bad one too with gunshots, loud cars, noisy neighbors and the like, and this unit does an amazing job keeping the noises down.
Just did a Google search for the model 454, I got this...

I am a horrible sleeper, one of those people who wakes up at every little noise. I also work nights and needed to find a sound machine that would drown out the everyday noise of city living. Prior to buying this sound machine, I had tried a few less expensive ones. Not one of them met my needs.
After reading some reviews, I decided to purchase the Marpac Sound Conditioner SleepMate and I can honestly say that I love it. I've had it for over a year and use it every day not only when I'm sleeping, but also whenever I need to focus. Reading books and studying has become easier using this machine. I am very happy with this purchase and will buy from the Marpac company again.

We bought this to use with our newborn as we have 3 other children under the age of 5 who make a ton of noise throughout the day. It has really been a sleep saver and beats the empty humidifier we were running before! I can move about the room while baby's sleeping without him hearing me, and it provides just enough background noise for a toddler's shrill shriek on the same floor not to totally rouse him. Since we've had baby rooming in with us, I'm hooked on this machine and will be ordering another one when we move baby in to his own room. We purchased this brand on recommendation from a friend who owns 3 and flies them with her when she vacations/visits relatives. I now know why!
