I absolutely love this item. I bought my first one 10 years ago, and spilled soda on it (sadly) and didn't waste a second replacing it.
Yes, a fan or a humidifier helps too, but really, I like that this can be used in all kinds of weather- and it travels so well!
The biggest thing I can say about it is that I love that it has a real motor- it's not a "loop" of prerecorded sounds. I can ALWAYS hear that little glitch when the loop starts over again- so annoying. The marpac product is so terrific- the real motor helps make natural white noise, and being able to turn it helps customize the sound.
You will NOT be disappointed.

We originally got this to replace the "fan noise" in the winter due to our sons' room being so cold. The first couple days the sound seemed so loud but you quickly get used to it. We've discovered it's very helpful for blocking out the noise of other children running through the house while our newborn is sleeping in addition to the city noises at night. With the adjustability dials it's ideal for a nursery or bedroom for those who cannot sleep without a fan. It doesn't however, cover the sound of someone coughing or snoring loudly. Would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a sound machine for environmental noise, especially for children.Customer Review: Works good

I bought this for my home office as I talk on the phone for work a lot. I was hoping it would block out more noise than it does, but it works how it is supposed to. To block out extra noise, I may buy another. I do recommend for those of you who do not live in as noisy of an environment, and work from home. I do live in a prety noisy environment. I am not sure about using it to sleep, although I had it on for a little while to test it and felt very tired and had to go take a nap. My bedroom is quiet enough to sleep though and I prefer the noise of the TV anyway. I think this would work for people for sleep, you might have to get used to it though.Customer Review: I luv this product!!!!!!

I just love this machine since it cancels out all the other annoying background noise. This product is definitely a white noise machine & for anyone concerned about this product emitting anything potentially harmful I put mine on the floor next to my bed & the sound is loud enough & perfect for me to drown out traffic, bird & airplane noise. The only thing I am sad about is not knowing about this product decades ago since it is a really wonderful product. The sound of the machine sounds sort of like a regular fan or a bathroom fan. For me it's the perfect sound machine & makes it where I can fall asleep with ease & just what I was hoping for.Customer Review: AWESOME!!

This product gives me back my much needed sleep every night!! No longer do I have to wake up to the sound of the disgusting sound of the husband gagging himself with the toothbrush. (don't know why he does that) I wake up to my alarm instead!! The white noise drowns out all of the unwanted noise in the house. Let's face it, the little amount of sleep we do get is precious to us! We need it people! How many times have you woken up to some annoying sound on the street or in the house/apt.? Well, with this product, your sleep worries are gone! A good night's sleep is priceless. But you only have to pay a small one. Get this!!
