About a year ago, after many sleepless nights in noisy hotel rooms, I started looking at white noise machines on Amazon. First on the list of bestsellers was the Marpac, I looked at the price and thought "what kind of idiot would pay that much for a noise machine?"
Apparently, I now know what kind of idiot, it's me. And I'm a happy well-rested idiot, thank-you-very-much!
But, before I pulled the trigger on the Marpac, I bought a $15 battery operated unit from some other manufacturer. Half hour after turning the thing on and turning in to bed, I was ready to throw it out the window - the sound was simply a short 30-second repetitive loop that created the exact opposite of a restful sound - more like the audible equivalent of water torture. It was at this point that I realized there was more to sound conditioning than meets the eye --- or ear, as the case may be.
So, back to the drawing board and a bunch of online research, and every time I found a glowing review of a sound machine, it was a Marpac. I trudged back to Amazon and plunked down my money. One month and a few noisy hotel nights later, and I am loving this unit. Can't say enough good about it!
If you need sound conditioning for any reason, save yourself the time and money trying other less-expensive options, and just get one of the Marpac units, you won't be disappointed.

The Marsona Travel Sound Conditioner is ideal for the person on the move, helping create a familiar sound environment while away from home. The TSC-330 is compact and lightweight, yet offers the noise masking capabilities of many full sized sound conditioners. We utilize solid state technology to create "white noise" emulating rain, waterfall and surf to effectively mask unwanted sounds and noise. The TSC-330 operates at a touch with two simple slide controls, one for volume and one for tonal range, a three way sound selector and on/off switch.
