Customer Review: Great Product....if it works for you.

I kinda forced the issue on this, because I really wanted it to work for me. It turns out that it REALLY does not work for my iPod Touch 3G. I can say with certainty, that it does not work. I was getting mixed signals from the reviews, as far as it's compatibility with the 3G Touch. I convinced myself that the people who were saying that it wasn't working for them with their Touches, it was because they were going by the statement about this product not being compatible with charging that comes up when you plug it in to the charger. I was hoping that all those people just overlooked the possibility of it at least causing the iPod to maintain it's current charge status, and gave up before they at least tested that possibility. I got the level kinda low, and started playing a movie. Within 20 to 30 minutes it shut off. Then I powered it on, and it actually powered on, but 5 to 10 minutes later it shut off again. At that point I finally surrendered. Too bad, cause I really liked the idea of the product.
The product has two holsters that attach to eachother. On one side you slide in the battery pack, and on the other side you slide the iPod into place. The iPod holster/holder does not accomodate the 3G Touch. The Touch is too wide, and too thin. My old 4G iPod photo fits like a glove. As far as my Touch, I figured out how I wanted to use it. I have this great little stand/holder called the iCARPUS, which is a great product. I mount the Touch in the iCarpus, and stand it right on top of the back of the battery pack, with the cord connected (totally dismissing the double holster). That set-up will definitely work for watching movies on a long flight ..... only if it was compatible. In my case it doesn't work, nor will it work with any newer Apple products, from what I understand. If it did, all Maxell would have to do is produce plastic adapters to keep up with demand of new Apple products, and they could continue selling this baby. But apparently, as another review mentioned, Apple changed the way iPods use/manage power, so it kinda outdates this product. Only works for older products from maybe 2008 and previous.
I rated it a 4, because even thought it didn't work for me, I really like the product.
UPDATE on 3-1-2011: For anybody that likes the idea of this product, but has run into compatibility issues, you might be interested in the Tekkeon MP1550. Compatibility does not appear to be an issue with ANY iPod model, and better yet it's univeral, so you can use it to charge cell phones, other MP3 players, digital cameras, etc. It doesn't seem to come up automatically when you search specifically for iPod external sources, I guess because it's a "univeral" USB type charger/battery pack. I'm really happy with it.
