Customer Reviews of Maxell P-2 2-G Rechargeable Back-Up Battery PackCustomer Review: It was great, while it lasted Summary: 2 Stars
I bought this in mid-Feb, received in late Feb, used maybe once a week until the last couple days. You know how sometimes a badly treated wire goes bad so it only works when you hold or kink it just so? Well, that's what happened to this, except I treated the wire like a king, very gentle, precisely because I was afraid of it going bad. And now it's bad and useless after under 3 months. Of course it's too late to return it. What is it with iPod accessories that they go bad so quickly? I really want to buy another one because in all other respects this battery pack was just great, but I don't want to because this really didn't last as long as it should have under the gentle treatment I gave it.
Customer Review: Great battery pack! Summary: 5 Stars
This thing got me through my 20 hours of flight from Washington, Dulles airport to Thailand. The battery life on this guy is surprisingly long. I watched about 20 hours of video on my iPod (6G).
The only downside is that it doesn't charge your iPod and doesn't fit my iPod perfectly (mine's too thin for it to fit perfectly). But if aesthetics aren't your concern then this thing is awesome. You'll have a hard time finding something better for the cost.
I liked having AA batteries instead of a Lithium battery since the only time you'd really need a battery pack like this is for travel anyway, and who wants to be tied to charging a lithium battery when you're on the road?
Customer Review: Great Product - Does what it says Summary: 5 Stars
This product works as advertised. Put in the AA batteries and you are good for many many hours of video watching. I've never completely drained a set of AAs, but would estimate that I get around 15 hours of video...I can't imagine how long the batteries would last just listening to music.
Yes, it is a little bulky compared to the size of the ipod. Also, the blue light can be a minor annoyance.
I lost the first one I had of these and was going to buy a different unit (one that was a bit smaller, used 9V and was cheaper) but in the end I knew this product did exactly what I needed it to do...play many hours of video without needing to be near a charger.
Customer Review: Cheap - and worth it! Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this with one thing in mind - powering my iPod Touch on Transatlantic flights. When you watch videos, it really sucks the juice out of the internal battery on the iPod and you will be lucky to watch 2 whole movies on one charge. With this battery pack, I was able to watch 2 movies plus listen to several hours of music.
The only caveat I can add is that the instructions say that it will power the unit, but not charge the internal battery. When I plugged it into my iPod with a nearly exhausted battery, it did indeed charge the internal battery pack. This is not a big deal because it did what it promised which is a fairly inexpensive way to extend my time.
Customer Review: Not bad Summary: 4 Stars
I'm become very skeptical about iPod battery units, I've tried more that have not worked than those that have. At first I thought this might be another dud, I plugged it in and got a message that recharging is not supported with the unit. I hit DISMISS, kept it connected and put on a movie. 45 minutes later there was no drop on the battery icon. So, you need to break this thing out before your tank runs dry, but that said it did the trick. The part where it works on conventional batteries was pretty smart, you could fly to Tokyo and watch movies the whole way. I held back one star just cause it will not recharge, realistically though that is a minor setback.
