Customer Reviews of Merkur Double Edge Razor Blades - Pack Of 10 Blades - Made In Germany

Customer Review: Adequate but overpriced
Summary: 3 Stars

If you (like myself) initially came to Amazon first in starting your entry into DE safety razor shaving, STOP right now. Using the search engine of your choice, seek out the several popular shaving blogs and online vendors. Do your homework before you reach for that credit card and read, read, read before making your choices. Merkur makes excellent DE razors that are well liked by novices and experts alike but their blades are only middle of the road in their performance but are priced above their value point. There are multiple choices for razor blades from all over the world (England/Russia/India/Pakistan/Turkey/Japan) and multiple vendors selling sample packs to help you in your search, prices range from $0.10 to $0.50 per blade with shipping, so choose wisely young shaving Jedi.

Customer Review: Great inexpensive and effective blade
Summary: 5 Stars

After having grown up using electric shavers, then finally moving over to the "modern" razors in an attempt to get a closer shave, my shave was still horrible. 5 o'clock shadow at 2 o'clock, maybe you can relate. I took the plunge back to an old fashioned Double-Edge razor, I got the Merkur Classic and these blades. It took me about 2 months to fully learn technique with Doube-Edge razors, and I did nick myself quite a few times with this blade, probably every time until I learned proper technique. The nicks aren't bad at all, they're small and unnoticeable after you're done shaving and its just part of the learning process. You just need to realize that if you take the DE plunge, you are going to go through a learning phase.

Your first month your shave will probably not be better than it was before, but after you get the technique down with the grain, you can start doing passes across the grain, and then against the grain. Note: when shaving with a DE, you need to do reduction passes in order, so for example, you do with the grain, across the grain, and if you're comfortable with it against the grain (in that order). This is how you get the best shave of your life.

So when you start out, stick with going with the grain for all your passes for the first week or two. When you get comfortable doing it with the grain, add a pass or two across the grain. Then gradually over time you can add against the grain. It should not hurt going across or against the grain, if it does, you need to do another reduction pass (usually with or maybe across grain) to get the hair shorter and more manageable, if that doesn't help then avoid against the grain as some people are super sensitive (for example I don't go against the grain on my neck, I'm super sensitive there). Good luck and enjoy your journey to the closet shave you'll ever have.

Customer Review: Not sharp enough
Summary: 1 Stars

This blade is not sharp enough for my beard, especially on the reverse pull, it sticks and rips the roots. I will try the Derby and if that does not work then Feather.

Customer Review: Pretty Good
Summary: 4 Stars

These work great as a starter blade. I used them after purchasing the long handled merkur safety razor. I am eager to try the fearther blades after this pack runs out. I have a thick beard and once I get the full technique down I think it will be time to move on. Still great blades, but I have a thick jungle of a beard, so any pull slows me down and stops my movement.

Customer Review: Blades really do make a difference
Summary: 5 Stars

I use a Merkur Solingen Futur Adjustable Double Edge Safety Razor, and have been using the Merkur Blades, and I was very pleased with the shave. Then our Rite-Aid when out of business and was selling generic blades at clearance prices so I bought a bunch -- AND THEY WERE TERRIBLE. Compared to the Merkur blades, they were rough and dull. There was a huge difference. These blades are so smooth, and so sharp -- as long as you are dropping [...] bucks on a razor, splurge and get the good blades.
