Customer Review: Get this razor, it will be your last one!
Summary: 5 Stars

I highly recommend this DE Razor, even for begginers, as before getting this razor all I used were "cheap" Gillette Sensor razors. In my first shave I only got one cut (but make sure to check instructional videos first).

Why you want to get this razor:

1. It exudes quality. This is a fine German product, not only it is beautiful, but it's solidly built.

2. It will give you the closest shave possible, at least as good as any other DE Razor, and definitely better than any Gillette or Schick product.

3. Cheaper! Prices of disposable cartridges are ridiculous, going for $1.50 or over each. DE blades cost 50 cents at most.

During my research I found some alleged downsides for this razor, I'm glad I didn't put too much weight on them because believe me, they are non-issues.

First, changing the blade is not dangerous, it's simple and safe if you use some common sense. Also, the adjustment mechanism is easy to use without your fingers coming close to the blade. Finally, the razor is not slippery at all, even when wet, just hold it properly.

If you're a begginer to traditional wet shaving, go to You Tube and find mantic59 videos, as I could not possibly tell you something about DE shaving which that guy doesn't know.

Customer Review: A razor for men and their great-great grandsons
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a tough, thick beard and sensitive skin. A tough combo. I had long ago lost my original DE razor I got when I started shaving. I'd tried electric razors without much luck (they work OK now that I have a good one, and when I use it daily), I'd tried disposables and multi-blade cartridge razors. One day I read a comment thread somewhere on the internet about DE razors, technique, etc. In the long run, cartridges are more expensive than the simple design of a DE razor + blades. And when the cost of changing a blade is low, you change it more frequently, which means you have sharper blades and a better shave.

So I got myself a nice brush, shaving soap, and this razor.

This is a razor to hand down for generations. It's a massive hunk of steel, but it's well balanced in the hand. It's got a great curve on the head that permits a precise, gentle shave (adjust it properly, learn good technique). Its design is extremely solid and built to last lifetimes. It is elegant and effective, and it looks good, too. A stellar example of industrial design.

It's so good that I'm thinking of getting another one so my son has a decent thing to shave with in a few years when he starts.

I always hated shaving, and I still don't love it, but I love this razor.

Customer Review: It's not slippery...
Summary: 4 Stars

I've been using this razor for a while now. I don't understand all these comments about a "slippery" handle. I have never had a problem with it being slippery, and both my hands and razor get wet. I like that it's adjustable. You can dial it up to chop down the weekend growth, then dial it down to do touch-ups or a second smooth pass. With a sharp blade, it will cut down everything from your sideburns to your chin in one stroke if you wanted it to. Not that this is the best way to shave, but just try that with a cartridge razor and 4 day growth. Not gonna happen. You wouldn't get as far as an inch with a cartridge razor.

Overall, a very nice razor, and it will soon pay you back the price in the money saved on cartridges (as low as 10 cents a blade for some brands, vs. over $4 each for the latest cartridge). DE razors shave better than cartridges and they're cheaper. You could use a brand new blade every day if you really wanted to, and it still wouldn't be as expensive as cartridge shaving, and you'll never get as close will less irritation than a DE razor. I suspect that some people use their cartridges long after they are dull just because they can't bear to toss them after spending so much on them. For the cost of DE blades, there is never a reason to shave with a dull blade.

Customer Review: Slippery when WET--NOT
Summary: 5 Stars

I SIMPLY LOVE THIS RAZOR!!!

The first shave, well lets just say it wasn't love at first BITE!! lol. I experienced a bit of a learning curve with this "thing". However, as soon as I left the weight of the razor provide the pressure for the shave along with a miracle blade find our relationship has blossemed into something I didn't think could exist!.

Granted, it becomes extremly "slick and slippery to when lather drips down the shaft. However, a quick rinse and the grip is perfect.

The adjustments on this razor are for real and extremely benificial once yours are perfected.

This razor along with my discovery of "Sharp" blades has led to a shave that I actually didn't believe obtainable.

With the proper setting and blade, (like maniac says) this baby becomes a powerfull sports razor which can be zoomed all over your face and almost never draw any blood!. Leaving even the most sensitive skin feeling baby smooth and burn free.

In closing I'll just say; If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got.
Think about it then buy this razor as quick as you can.

Customer Review: WARNING!
Summary: 1 Stars

The honest appraisal of this razor is that, on balance, it is not good. the design is basicaly flawed. Merkur have attempted to convert an exceptional tried and tested design - the heffty classic - to taylor for a younger market. Firstly the method of changing the blade uses a prong system instead of a skrew. The two prongs are held by two flimsy peices of wire - i question the durability there! Secondly the upper head is too bulky and extends too far to the side making shaving of the area next to the ear a chore (also one side extends further than the other???). But crucialy - and this may have been only apparent in my particular razor - the adjustment system is incorrectly fitted. this is due to the tip of the spring exerting more pressure on one side than the other resulting in a head that angles to one side!
Merkur are, however, an exceptional brand, yet, it is a howling mistake they have made here releasing this model.
I would back the heffty classic 101%, but have not an iote of confidence in this one. Additionaly, the cost, even if functioning well, is not justified.
Be smart buy the classic!
