Customer Review: An excellent razor, IF you know how to shave with a safety razor
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great product, and you really can't beat anything that's engineered and manufactured in Germany. I bought this razor off of ebay and I have been shaving with it for over a year. The razor is fairly heavy, so you might want to reconsider if this is your first safety razor. I want to also caution you that adjusting the blade takes a little gettting us to. If you start out too quickly you're probably going to cut up your face. Start slow! I personally us a 2.5-3 setting.

The blade is held down by a top that snaps on and off. This may seem flimsy, but it is actually very secure and I have had no problems with durability.

No matter what razor you purchase, get a good brush (badger) and shaving cream. Take your time and take little strokes. Once you get the hang of it, I guarantee that a safety razor shave will be the best shave you've ever had. Haha, my girlfriend once described my shave as "prepubescent".

Customer Review: a sure shave
Summary: 4 Stars

I've been using this for a month now and am getting the hang of it. I was initially concerned about nicks after reading reviews but have not had a problem with this at all. It is a bit more necessary to use shaving cream than with my mach3 which I could use to touch up with just a little water if in a rush. Without cream the metal of the Futur will shudder across your skin. I am just using regular shaving cream from a can which seems to work fine.

As for the Merkur blade it is apparently so sharp at first that I did not even realize I was cutting anything. That initial super sharpness does not seem to last more than a shave or two but still stays sharp enough to give a close shave for me after a month -- I'm still on my first blade. The savings on blades will quickly let the Merkur pay for itself and in the mean time I get to enjoy the process of shaving with this solid instrument.

Customer Review: Not for Beginners
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a great razor, but is probably too aggressive for those just starting out their DE shaving experience. [If you are new to DE shaving, start with the Merkur Classic, which is half the price of this one.] Like other reviewers have stated, those who have already developed their technique will probably find use in the adjustable settings because you can fine-tune your shave. The shape of the head on this is a little bit different than other DE razors, so there is a slight learning curve even for experienced DE shavers. And because of the larger-than-usual head, precision shaving is more of a challenge than with a basic razor. The overall design is very sexy, but the smooth-finished handle becomes pretty slippery once some shaving creme gets on it. Changing out the blade is very easy and fast. The weight is good, and supplies all the pressure you need for a great shave.

Customer Review: Don't Doubt - You Will Be Happy
Summary: 5 Stars

Buy this razor, now.

1.) Closer shave then any disposable or Mach this or that, or 17-blade corporate money-maker you have ever used.

2.) Cheaper in the long run (other reviews here have laid out the math for blade replacements)

3.) Better for the environment - the blade replacements use no plastic like the corporate ones

4.) It cuts through my thick beard. And mine is thick.

5.) You will rush to shave. I am working out in a few hours and cannot wait until afterwards when I get to shave.

6.)Feel like a man! Real razor.

Stop reading reviews right now, and buy this razor. You can thank me later by sending me a $25 money order to Review: Great safety razor, great for new users.
Summary: 4 Stars This was my first safety razor and I love it! Many say you might start out by cutting yourself a lot but if you read the tips and suggestions found online and follow them.... well, lets just say I haven't cut myself yet and its been a month. I love the adjustability, I started on 1 (impossible to cut yourself?) and have moved up to 1.5. I might be trying 2 soon.

This is also a razor I'm proud to see on my bathroom counter, its the equivalent of having a Ferrari in the driveway!

One drawback - the blade doesn't go all the way to the edge of the razor which for me, has made a little tough on the upper lip and near the nose.
