Customer Reviews of Merkur Heavy Duty Double Edge Razor #34C + 5 Free DE Razor BladesCustomer Review: The Best & Greenest Shave Summary: 5 Stars
The product itself is a classic. This is old fashioned German quality. I would not surprise me if it lasted a hundred years or more of daily use it's that well made. I bought mine eight years ago. Back then I was clean shaven and one again I'm clean shaven. I've tried the expensive multi-blade super razors and they all left me wanting. I'm old enough to have started with a double edge safety razor and that is where I'm back to. The only challenge and it's a small one is local stores don't have blades worth using. You can buy a years supply online for $20-$30. I have somewhat sensitive skin which likes a good blade. It's easy to find blade samplers and then select that blade your face likes best. My choice in foam is old fashioned cake soap in a classic Victor mug and an old school shaving brush. The reason safety Razors are not main stream is a lack of profit. The shave is far superior and as an added bonus the environmental impact is minimal. The big corps just can't make a profit so they push an inferior product. If you need advice on how to use a classic safety razor do a web search there are forums loaded with advice and videos. It's easy and your skin will thank you.
Customer Review: Merkur Heavy Duty Double Edge Razor #34C Summary: 5 Stars
I was tired of spending a lot of money on the super duper 20 blade 50 horse power blades that just irritated my skin. I ordered Merkur Heavy Duty Double Edge Razor #34C because of the excellent feedback after doing a lot of research. I used it last night for the first time and could not believe how smooth and easy this thing shaves! I used the Mercur blade that it came with and I have no complaints whatsoever.
It's built like a tank and shaves as smooth a silk. I did not get any razor burn or ingrown hairs! Wow!!! I am thoroughly impressed! Other then profit I cannot see why you can't buy this product at the local grocery stores or pharmacies. I will NEVER go back to using regular commercial razors. I strongly recommend this product, excellent quality, built for life, easy to use, cheap to replace blades and shaves closer than anything on the market!
Please note: that you need a good shave soap or shave cream (not that combustible stuff in a can) for this product to work efficiently as designed. I recommend Speick shave cream with this razor, a good badger brush, and whatever your choice is of aftershave.
Customer Review: Great Razor! Summary: 5 Stars
I'm African American and a military officer. Clean shaves are a must daily and I've tried it all...magic shave, mach 3, Fusion (or as I call it mach 5), Norelco Nivea for men shavers and clippers. All had their positives but mixing chemicals daily became tiring and in-grown hairs were unsightly. So, after much research I decided to try wet-shaving. This has made a world of difference.
The Merkur HD is my first razor. Using Art of Shaving products and Merkur blades, I'm able to get a close shave with no razor burn/bumps. Occasionally I'll get an in-grown but I blame my technique (I still cut myself every now and then...usually when I'm in a rush). This razor definitely has some weight to it and I find the blade loading/unloading simple although not as cool as the "butterfly" razors.
I highly recommend this product for a beginner. Blades are equally as important. I have found Merkur blades to be the happy medium between quality and sharpness although Feather's clearly are samurai sword sharp. Make sure you get a good quality badger brush and shaving cream/soap. Good luck!
Customer Review: This is a serious tool... Summary: 5 Stars
You realize that when you first pick it up. It's heavy. It's machined to hold the blade square to the rest of the razor. It has no frills, just function.
Having decided to go the double edge route I researched to find the best 'starter' razor that would last and perform without fail. I found it. This razor has a substantial presence in the hand. It's weight and balance make it ideal for gliding down my face with no pressure needed from me. It's simple construction makes it durable and reliable. Although it is not adjustable this 'feature' actually promotes good technique. Once you learn the correct angle it becomes intuitive.
I have used disposable razors for 40 years and will not go back. I get a much better shave, less irritation, and I'm spending a lot less on blades compared to the other 'systems' out there. A slight learning curve and a little practice will free you from the outrageous expense of disposables, and with better results! The Merkur Heavy Duty (34C) is a great place to start your education and your liberation!
Customer Review: Love it. Summary: 5 Stars
Okay, it's been awhile now. Almost a year. I have learned a few things and don't plan on ever going back to a modern razor. I am a safety razor guy, now. And I like it. I bought the long handle, which I enjoy. I like that it feels substantial. It came with a Merkur blade. I then tried Feathers. Then Derby. I came back to using the Merkur. Maybe not a super sharp as Feathers, but I like how smooth they are. I never feel like I have ripped up my face. I wouldn't recommend the Derby's. Too harsh for my taste. The number one thing that seems to help is the shaving soap, cream. Make sure you have a good one and almost any shave will be luxurious. Sadly, even a normal blade feels better and closer with the right soap. I have tried a few. Proraso, Tom's of Maine, Regular. Tom's of Maine was natural and the best for me, but was discontinued. Proraso stings. Too chemically for me. So now I am looking for the right soap again. But at least I found my razor. This one.
