Customer Reviews of MyoTape Body Tape MeasureCustomer Review: Great Product, Stupid People! Summary: 5 Stars
Honestly, how hard can a thing like this be. Seriously. I understand people are confused as how to use this product, well let me educate you all. First, you pull out the tape. Bam. "What's that clicking noise!?!?!", you ask? They put it there to upset and confuse you. Yep. Seriously, it's nothing to worry about. It clicks to unwind the tape, and to set it in place when you attach the peg on the end of the tape into it's slot on the side of the MyoTape. But whoa, I'm getting ahead of myself! After unwinding the tape to your desired length, you then wrap it around the part of your body that you wish to measure, just like you would a regular measuring tape. Simple enough? Ya, you'd think so, right? Next, pull out the tape a little more than need-be. Why? Because you're going to need that room to attach the peg into the slot on the MyoTape, without having to put on a half-time show at the circus. Then, you're going to attach the peg on the end of the tape, into the slot on the end of the Myotape. BAM! Was that so hard? But wait - there's more! After attaching the peg into the slot, you will then PUSH the button that is located right under the words "MyoTape". This will tighten the tape next to your body, giving a correct reading.
Simple!! Easy!! Idiot-proof!! (You would think so, eh?)
Customer Review: Only locks at 1" intervals Summary: 3 Stars
The only issue I have with this tape measure is that it only locks at 1" intervals. That's fine when I'm measuring areas where I can read the tape while it's still wrapped around whatever I'm measuring. So, if I'm doing a thigh or arm measurement, I can do the measurement, look at the reading and then remove the tape. However, it's a problem when I'm doing a waist measurement. I would have to bend over or otherwise contort my body to try to see the tape while it's still around my waist. That, of course, will change the measurement and make it inaccurate. Since it only locks at 1" intervals, if I were to remove the pin and then look at the tape, it would recoil to the next nearest full inch measurement. So, if my waist is 31.5" inches, when I remove the pin and hold the tape up to read the measurement, it will recoil to the 31" mark. So, in order to get an accurate waist measurement, I have to hold the tape to prevent it from recoiling, then try to remove the pin, unwrap the tape from my waist and bring it up to read it... and through all of that try not to lose my grip and have the tape recoil. I find it to be a bit frustrating and have seen other body tape measures like this that you can lock wherever it stops. I'm disappointed that this one does not.
Customer Review: You get what you pay for... Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this tape measure mostly because the price was so good. Compared to other soft tape measures priced similarly, I liked the retractable feature and the clip which would allow for a more accurate reading. Unfortunately, the third time I used the item, the clip broke off during retraction and now I cannot get the tape out of the casing. I even tried to break apart the casing so I can at least use the tape but frustratingly, the casing itself is very solid. So...
The other complaint was that it did not start at 0 but 1 3/4 inches (if I remember correctly) which makes sense since it's supposed to be used clipped in. However, it did restrict its measuring capability to circumferences only unless one wants to do the math to figure out how to measure straight lines. I'll readily admit my own laziness here...
Therefore, it works well for measuring circumferences which is what someone using this for tracking fitness progression would want. However, the clip itself is easily broken off, rendering the device completely useless (but annoyingly whole otherwise while the tape measure is now stuck inside!!) once it breaks off during retraction. I think I'm going to stick with a simple tape measure next time around.
Customer Review: Gets the job done. Summary: 4 Stars
This measuring tape is very easy to use by yourself. If you are wanting to measure your arms, just extend the tape out in a big loop, then slide the plastic nub at the end of the tape into it's notch. Stick your arm through the loop, and press the button in the center. It's that easy. If you do it like I do it, you can measure without flexing first..get your measurement, and then flex, and get the new measurement. You dont have to redo the tape, it just pulls out a little more for ya.
I only have 2 gripes about this. The first one is minor. I wish the plastic nub at the end of the tape had a rubber lining. Because the notch is plastic also. And plastic against plastic tends to slide. So instead of firmly being in place in the notch, it can slide out sometimes. So I've learned to just hold the nub firmly while pressing the center button to tighten the tape. The second gripe would have to be the tape itself. It's not bad, but it could be a better quality. Mine had a fold in it. I'm guessing the measurer had been in the package for a bit. So I had to rub the fold out. Not that big of a deal, but it just irked me some.
But if you want a cheap measuring tape, then you should give this puppy a try.
Customer Review: Perfect tape for body measurements Summary: 5 Stars
This measure is very specifically - and well - designed to do what it says it will - measure around a body part.
It is simple and easy to use. Slip it around the target body part, slip the shunt at the end into the slot, and hit the button to retract the tape. The plastic curving top portion of the holder counts for about 1 3/4 inches, so your measurement is easily visible. You can unslot the shunt and look at it - the tape won't retract until you hit the button.
The holder is plastic but solid, and the tape is medium-heavy vinyl of some sort, I think - sturdy but pliable. Short of stepping on it with cleat boots or running over it with the car, it will probably survive a long time.
I personally have had zero problems with the shunt coming out of the slot. However, for those with this problem - depending on how dexterous you are - you can keep the pad of your thumb on the end of the shunt when you hit the button with the first knuckle of your thumb.
If you want to know how much you really have lost - or gained - or need exact measurements to buy a garment online - this is a perfect tool. And things go better when you have the right tool.
