It works exactly how it should. And I'm going to respond to some comments that almost caused me not to buy the thing.
1. Can't get an accurate measure because of 1" intervals.
a) You're using it wrong. The intervals are to keep it from recoiling on it's own as you're pulling it out. When you press the button to recoil, there are no intervals. (hint: read the directions) Also, this gave the same measurements as a standard tape measure.
2. Broken out of the box, bad clicking noise.
a) It's a feature, not a defection. See answer above. You can also hold the button as you pull it out to avoid the clicking, but release the button when you're done so it doesn't recoil before you're ready.
3. The pin keeps falling out.
a) I don't know if it was the company's intention, but I see this as a feature. The only time it pops out is if the tape isn't straight and/or flush, which would give an inaccurate measurement anyway.

The design of this tape is really brilliant. Anyone who is trying to lose weight should be tracking not only the pounds they are losing, but also the inches. Unfortunately, measuring yourself can be really awkward and it is hard to get accurate results, but asking someone else to do it can be really embarassing. This little measuring tape makes it much easier. You pull the tape out a little longer than you need it (the tape automatically locks in place), hook the little peg in the groove and then hold it against your body and push the button. The button causes the tape to retract until it is snug. Once you release the button the tape locks into place again. All you have to do at that point is slip the peg out of the groove and then look the markings. When you are done push the button again and the tape wraps up inside the handle. It is a simple design that really works. Anyone who is on a diet absolutely must get this tape. They will not regret it!Customer Review: Great inexpensive and accurate tool!

I purchased the MyoTape Body Tape Measure to keep track of body measurements as we changed our family's diet to an organic whole foods diet. I find this tool much easier to use than a sewing-kit type measuring tape, which can allow for pulling the tape to loosely or too tightly or unevenly. In contrast, the MyoTape makes a loop around the body part and then a simple push of the button, automatically retracts and snugs the tape to measure more accurately. After measuring, the plastic tape-end comes out of the holder to undo the loop while the device holds the tape at the measured length (so you can jot down your measurements). You then just push the button again to release and retract the tape fully. I like that you don't need a partner to help you measure accurately so you can do it at any time, very easily and efficiently. This is an inexpensive, reasonably sturdy, and accurate tool. This works well enough to get the measurements needed and doesn't require the help of a second person. It is simple to use and the measurements are accurate enough for my purposes. There is a little round pin on the end of the tape which slides into a corresponding opening opposite of where the tape comes out. Let's say you're going to measure your bicep. After sliding the pin into the into the opening, remove enough tape so you can slide your arm through the looped tape up to you bicep. When the tape is around your bicep at the point where you want to measure, simply press the little button in the middle and the tape will retract around your bicep and then just read the measurement. This is made of plastic. It is not as sturdy as a tape measure used in woodworking or construction for measuring length. This is the same type of measuring tape used by tailors.
