Hopefully, we wouldn't need to use it often. We tried it out on each other and our 2yr old. You can see all the ear wax, etc. I guess if there was an ear infection, you would see some redness, etc. Worth the price for peace of mind...Customer Review: Keep away from the kids!

I had a "cheapie" otoscope te kids broke. Keep this one away from them! I just got mine. Not too heavy, but has more substance than my old one. Will last longer! I plan to get a lot of use out of it with 7 pairs of ears in the house!Customer Review: Worked for a day

This otoscope worked for about a day! I went to use it a couple months after I bought it and the light does not stay on - like something is loose. Not reliable. Should have realized you have to spend more to get better quality.
