Customer Reviews of NOW Foods, LAVILIN UNDERARM DEODORANT CREAM - 12.5 gm (10cc)Customer Review: Don't like new formula, found a better deodorant Summary: 3 Stars
I've been using Lavilin for over 20 years, the kind that came in the old black container. As the other reviewers mentioned, it was a great non-toxic alternative to the standard deodorants offered. It was almost scent free and it worked. I usually just needed 2-3 applications a month. The one thing I didn't like was having to apply it with my fingers. It seemed a small price to pay for a long-lasting, effective, non-toxic product.
I've just tried the new version of Lavilin. The manufacturer told me the only thing about it that has changed is the consistency of the cream, to make it more spreadable. Well, it is more spreadable, but it also has a stronger scent. I just applied it yesterday and the scent was noticable to me all day, and unpleasant. It does not seem like an added perfume, but just the scent of the ingredients. Also, just as with the old formula, this Lavilin is hard to wash off my hands. In fact, I couldn't get it completely off. My fingers felt a iittle gummy and smelled of it all day.
I have found a deodorant I like better, the Now Long Lasting Deodorant stick. (See my review of that product here on Amazon). It is delicately scented with lavender oil, but that dissipates almost immediately after application. I was able to go 9 days before needing to apply it again, during a major heat wave. And it's a stick so I don't need to get it on my fingers to apply. Yay!
The Lavilin people [...] sent me a free sample so I could try it before I buy it. If you're curious about the product, I suggest doing that first.
The Lavilin wore off today, 6 days after applying it. The NOW product lasted 9 days.
Customer Review: LAVALIN "NATURAL" DEODORANT Summary: 2 Stars
I was very happy to hear about a "natural" deodorant that could last so long. I really don't like all the chemicals alternatives we have now. Unfortunately looking at the label, you can hardly call this product natural, save for the arnica and calendula in it. I would advise anyone to google some of the ingredients in this and see what you come up with. If the maker can explain why all these extra chemicals are needed, then it might change my mind. The properties of calendula and arnica are very good. I cannot see why all these extra chemicals are needed. I myself might feel safer using a regular deodorant without aluminum in it. I'm sure it does work as advertised though. Though it is keeping the smell away because of the slew of germicides in the product, and not relying on the integrity of its natural ingredients.
Petrolatum, Talc, Zinc Oxide, Potato Starch (Modified), Ethylhexylglycerin, Triethyl Citrate, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Extract, Glycine Soja & Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract & Tocopherol, Glycine Soja & Arnica Montana Flower Extract & Tocopherol, BHT, Chlorphenesin, Tetrasodium EDTA (Tetrasodium Edetate Dihydrate), Fragrance, o-Cymen-5-ol (Isopropyl Methylphenol).
Customer Review: Does well in the desert! Summary: 5 Stars
Okay, so this is a bit more expensive to buy than your regular stick deoderant, but I feel that it's worth it's weight in gold! It does take awhile for it to have the full effect. But, then it states that on the instructions. First you have to try to detox the pits by not wearing anything for several days. That alone is the hardest part. But, don't give up! I can go for 2 weeks without feeling that I need more! It goes on like a white paste, but has NEVER come off on my clothes, even right after putting it on. After I moved back to the desert, I noticed that my trusty stick deoderants would fail me after so long. I started doing research on deoderants, and found that this one is used by our soldiers in the middle east. Well, they have temps there similar to mine! I am so glad that I found this stuff! It doesn't take much. You just smear a small amount around, and go! You still sweat, but then...you need to sweat. Sooo, if you don't want to sweat, maybe you could just have your sweat glands removed...but then, would you overheat? Hmmmm. It's probably much cheaper, and less painful to just buy this stuff! It ROCKS!
Customer Review: takes some work Summary: 4 Stars
I have been using Lavilin for 15 years now and it is definitely the only deodorant that has ever worked for me. Thing is, it takes a few weeks of using more than once a week when you first start out using it before it will become effective, at least that is my experience. Also, if you don't constantly keep up on a steady regimen that works for you, it wont work as well. Once you are on a consistent regimen, it works great. When I have gotten off of my regimen due to running out of the stuff or being out of town and not having it with me, I have had to start all over again. I personally have to use it about every 5 days to keep the stink away. Another note, if you try using a regular deodorant in between lavilin uses, that pretty much ruins the chance of the lavilin being effective. Your arm pits cannot be clogged with other deodorants for this one to work well. Also helps if you don't get sweaty at all for a few hours when first applied, it seems to make a big difference for me. Like I said, it takes a some work for this product to be completely effective, but it is well worth it if you can get into a routine.
Customer Review: Works Extremely Well; Lasts Long Summary: 5 Stars
I've been using this product for years, since a guy friend told me about how well it works for him. If it can work for a guy, it can definitely work for me, I thought! A little of this cream on the fingertip, rubbed well into the skin, keeps your underarms fresh.
Lavilin keeps your underarms deodorized for about 4 days. You don't have to use other deodorants, nor the Lavilin again, for 4 days or so. I read it works by killing the bacteria in the armpit area, and it keeps it from multiplying, thus eliminating odor. I've also used it when I wasn't able to shower and already started needing it, and it eliminated most of the scent that was there.
You can shower and soap over it - it doesn't come off. I put it on after my shower, and shower the next day, and the next, and the next. Usually by then I'm seeing that I need to reapply it.
Gals - don't use it right after shaving - I did that once and it clogged my pores (which were open from shaving) and I had red bumps on my underarm for a couple of days. Shaving the day before or after using Lavilin works well.
