After more than 12 years without any problems, I had a UTI that I just couldn't get rid of last year. Three rounds of antibiotics properly taken didn't get rid of it and I was following all the rules (including ruling out some of the more common causes of chronic cystitis). Finally, my doctor suggested a long-term course of low-dose antibiotics. I researched homeopathic remedies and found that UTI Clear made it simple. I ordered this in combination with UTI Tonic (treats bladder spasms, urgency, frequency) and I was amazed at the results. Within days, I had relief of my symptoms. Now, if I feel even a twinge, I start a daily dose of UTI Tonic for prevention and I haven't been back to my doctor since then.
If you're interested, keep reading for some advice if you're having chronic problems.
1. Drink LOTS of water. Your body gets rid of extra sugar by filtering it through the kidneys. If you're a big sweet tea or soda drinker, you may spill that extra sugar in your urine. Bacteria thrive in that environment. Most of us don't drink nearly enough water and the urine is more concentrated and you will be more prone to infection.
2. DO NOT tub bathe. If you want to relax in the tub, shower first to get clean, then run your relaxing bath. You can add plain old table salt or baking soda to the water to soften it but avoid anything that is perfumed or makes bubbles. They're fun but they're not good for you.
3. Only use plain, unscented soaps like Dove or a natural soap.
4. You and your partner should always bathe before intercourse and the woman should always get up and urinate afterwards. Any time you urinate, put a little oomph into it... this will help to mechanically flush out any bacteria.
5. DON'T use douche. There are beneficial bacteria that live in the vagina that help to prevent "bad" bacteria from getting a start and douching changes the pH balance and kills off the "good" bacteria.
6. If you have anything other than a clear or white discharge or if you notice any odor, see your doctor. Period.
