Customer Review: Cheap plastic quality; narrow field; just not that great.

I have been using the Philips goLITE BLU Light Therapy Device for a little while and have been pretty happy with it. However, there was some research suggesting that full-spectrum white light might be more effective than Blue light and so I wanted to try a full-spectrum device.
I really liked the LEDs on the Philips light and wanted a lamp that was rated at 10000 Lux (recommended for therapeutic effect). I also didn't want a device that looked like a big florescent industrial box so decided to try the NatureBright PER3 Lamp.
I have to say, relative to the Philips device, this one isn't as effective. The lamp itself is made of cheap cheesy blue plastic. For the money that this lamp costs, they could have made it of much better quality.
Pros:
-- The lamp has a variety of configurations for how you can aim the light itself.
-- The controls are pretty easy to figure out.
-- It has several light levels so it can double as a desk lamp
Cons:
-- Because of the rectangular nature of the lamp head, it can be difficult to have the light aimed at the right place so that your eyes are in the correct angle relative to the lamp.
-- There is too much dark space between the LEDs which seems to weaken the strength of the light. While it is rated at 10000 lux, it somehow just doesn't seem that bright because the density of the LEDs doesn't seem as great as the Philips.
-- the Philips light has a plastic grid which acts to defuse some of the light not making it as harsh. Also, the blue light, by itself is not as harsh as the white.
-- I had this light shining on me at full-strength for an hour one morning and I was able to sleep through it. Therefore, it is not effective as an alarm clock. The Philips light, on the other hand, wakes me up.
Overall, I can not tell any improvement with the white light over the blue light. It could be that the traditional fluorescent light box such as NatureBright SunTouch Plus Light and Ion Therapy Lamp might work better because it has a larger field of brightness. All I know is that for whatever reason, the Philips seems to do a much better job waking me up and giving me that added energy boost that I need during the winter months and to get out of bed in the dark early morning.
