Customer Review: Works on winter blahs and carb cravings

Normally, in winter, I sleep too much and have intense carb cravings. As a result, I feel more down than usual.
I have been using this product for about three weeks. I use it for half an hour in the morning, 12-16 inches away from my face (I sit and knit while the light is on). I still felt down during the two weeks around the solstice (although better than I usually do at that time of year), but I noticed that I snapped out of it more quickly. I was also able to keep up my exercise regimen more easily, because I wasn't so tired and blah feeling. I think if I had started using this light earlier in the winter season, I would have had even better results.
I've noticed a dramatic reduction in my carb cravings as well.
I wasn't sure about purchasing and using this light, but it has worked out really well for me. I've gone from dragging myself out of bed and doing the bare minimum to enjoying my morning routine (even while getting up earlier) and leaving for work refreshed and happy.
As far as the product itself, I have found it to be well made, lightweight, and more portable than some of the others I looked at. The timer is also very helpful. I think the jury is out as far as the ozone issue, so I don't use the ion thing, so I can't comment on that, except to say that I tried it and didn't think it smelled bad.
I am very happy with my purchase and have already recommended it to several people.

I looked at a few different sun lamps on Amazon and ended up with this one because the price was discounted. The company's website did not have as many detailed specs as I wanted to see before buying the product, so I called customer service. To receive 10,000 lux, you have to sit at least as close as 15 inches. The manual says with the ionizer on, you can sit as far as 20 inches (I'm not sure I believe that - I think it's just recommended for a "treatment session", not for the 10,000 lux). Also, the lights should be good for about 3 years (there are 4 in the lamp), and it's currently $60 to replace all 4.
As for the ionizer, I wasn't looking for anything like this feature, and I was skeptical about it at first. However, I have since learned that it is a great plus to the light itself; it's like having fresh air blowing at you. With the ionizer and the lamp on, I almost feel like I'm sitting outside on a sunny day.
Shipping was prompt, customer service was OK (they did take a day to call me back even during business hours- but they were nice and answered all my questions), and I'm very happy about the lamp. I'm not a morning person, but I find myself actually looking forward to going to work in the morning just so I can sit next to the lamp. I wasn't convinced when I bought the lamp that light therapy would actually counter my winter depression, but I'm a believer now. This lamp has certainly worked well for me.

I can't say enough good things about this product. For years I have joked that I thought I had SAD, as I feel down from Fall to Spring and tired. I crave sunlight and feel healthier when I get out in it. So, when a Dr. suggested an antidepresent because I was feeling off, lethargic and foggy headed, I decided to try this first.
I am so glad that I did! It arrived at 4:00 p.m. and I could not wait until morning to try it, so I plugged it in and sat in front of it reading from 4:30 to 5:00. I felt energized and happier very quickly, and by the time I was done, I felt wide awake. I mean WIDE AWAKE, and I can't say the last time I have felt that way! I enjoyed the rest of the evening with friends and felt great despite the freezing snow storm outside and early darkness. I was not tired, and my mind was focused on conversation and not shutting down.
I am now on Day 3 and I used it this morning before coffee (I usually live on this to even sludge through the day). When I was done with my 30 min. I felt better than if I had had coffee. I was awake and happy and did not even feel I needed the boost, but I had one cup just for enjoyment. I actually sat in Church without feeling like I needed to go home and nap. I was alert and interacting, and smiling...no foggy brain and no feeling like I was sitting there, but not really there.
I am also reading the SAD for Dummies book and it is very helpful!

I moved from Virginia to Iowa in '06 and experienced SAD during my first winter here. It wasn't something that I recognized right away and by the time spring came, I was 30lbs heavier and suffering from moderate depression. After some extra warm weather exercise and a resolution to not let it happen to me again this year, I did some research on sunlight therapy and settled on this affordable NatureBright product.
I felt the difference within 2 days of using it! My mood brightened and I started to get my initiative back. Even though it is still cold and grey outside, I now go for walks, out to eat, on day trips and have started picking up forgotten projects around the house.
Per the instructions included with the lamp, I sit in front of it for 30 minutes in the morning and then sometimes another 30 minutes in the early afternoon. I have the Ion breeze on throughout the day.
In reference to the actual product, it has a timer which is wonderfully easy to operate and makes the 30 minute timing precise. There is an on/off switch for both the light and the ion air. The lighting area is about the size of a hardback book and has 4 long bulbs.
Overall, I feel that this is a great item to use to perk you up during those winter months inside!
