Customer Reviews of NatureBright SunTouch Plus Light and Ion Therapy LampCustomer Review: Practical Construction, Easy to Carry Summary: 5 Stars
I'm not going into the benefits of light therapy here. I am not a doctor. What I want to say is that if you are considering buying a light therapy product, this one is great. Its construction makes it immensely practical. I carry it to work, and it is easy to set up beside my desk. See that nice stable base in the photograph? It's as good as it looks! The item is compact and lightweight, which is key to me, because I walk with a cane, and I want to be able to carry it home to use on the weekends. No problem! I can slip it--and a few other small items--into a canvas tote, and be on my merry way. It doesn't take up a lot of space; at home, I put up a TV tray beside by desk, plop it on there, plug it in, and we're good to go. The buttons for timing are on the side of the machine, so you choose the amount of time you (or your doctor) deem necessary, and then it goes off on its own. I don't think the ionizer smells bad, personally, but you can easily turn the ionizer off. My husband has been eyeing my little purchase, and thinks maybe he wants one for himself to take to work, too! And especially for those of us in the Pacific Northwest, who love our home but do suffer from too little light, it's a great investment!
Customer Review: It wirks Summary: 5 Stars
I read a lot of reviews before purchasing this product and most addressed the unit's fragility, and the smell. As to the fragility: I've knocked the sunlamp off of the table onto a hardwood floor, and it still works.
The smell: I really don't like the smell, I'm very sensitive to smells, but you can shut that part off and just use the sunlamp.
The product description says that the ionic feature is good for allergies, and maybe once you get used to the smell it works. I can't handle it, so I'm not going to try again until I'm really stuffed up.
I've been using the sunlamp feature for about two weeks and I've noticed a marked increase in my energy (it has been very overcast lately, which usually makes me want to sleep all day), I've been sleeping more soundly and waking up refreshed as well. Nothing else has changed in my life, so I have to give credit to the lamp.
Another of my concerns was the practicality of staring at a lamp for fifteen minutes a day, in the morning, I set it up slightly behind my computer screen and barely notice it.
I have no regrets about the money I spent on this item, it was totally worth it.
Customer Review: No reason to be SAD with this purchase Summary: 4 Stars
As a person who suffers from SAD, clinically diagnosed mood swings, and who, can certainly be a cynic (perhaps due to all these), I purchased this product with a certain amount of skepticism. I am happy to say I was wrong! I sat with the lamp on for 15 minutes or so each morning while I ate breakfast, and noticed that overall for the dark of the New England winter (November through Late March, really)I wasn't felled with that malaise that could leave me lying on the couch evening after evening watching all of the bonus material for Lord of the Rings ad nauseum. (not that there's anything wrong with LOTR, mind you.)This had to be an improvement. I will say that I continued my regular treatment for depression, etc all winter, but the light box really did seem to work.
The only odd thing about this item is the "ion" treatment. It seemed to me that what this did was blow not wholly unpleasant air onto my face, but I basically used the unit without it. You can just turn those buttons off. No big deal.
I also found the unit sturdy enough for my purposes; no trouble with errant buttons or whatnot. It is made of plastic, like everything, and seems durable.
Customer Review: SunTouch works well, but has some design flaws Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased this to help alleviate the symptoms of S.A.D. based on other reviews I read. I've been using it for the past 3 weeks almost daily and do feel that it has lifted my mood overall.
Several thoughts:
- it has a timer that goes up to 60 minutes; however, the indicator is in 15-minute increments and is just a blinking light so you can't tell where you are within that time period. Knowing you only have 1 minute, or 10 minutes, etc., remaining would be helpful.
- the on/off button has an incredibly bright blue light. I would have expected the blue light to be OFF when the lamp is off, but the light remains ON when the lamp is plugged in, regardless of whether the lamp is on or off. It is *extremely* bright. I keep it beside my bed and have to put a hand towel over it because the light bothers me at night.
- the ion therapy smells really funky and is not pleasant to me. I thought maybe it was because it was new, so turned it on and left it on for an hour, but it seems to always have that strange odor when I turn it on.
- this tabletop model is a good size and is lightweight, so you can set it on your lap if needed.
Customer Review: Takes the edge of Depression or SAD Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased the Skyeffect Lamp to fight depression, which turns into major depressive episodes during the winter. I did a little background research and found this to contain the right amount of light (10,000-lux, which is a minimum to battle SAD) and ion therapy.
It is also relatively compact with a long cord, so I'm able to fit it in my linen closet and the cord reaches my desk, so I can use it while I'm working.
The lamp itself has a timer setting for the light: 15, 30, 45, or 60 minute intervals, which you can adjust easily. The ion therapy setting can either be turned ON or OFF, even during your light therapy session. The unit also has an ON/OFF button.
The light bulbs are very strong, so as the product recommends, use the lamp in bright lighting as to not strain your eyes.
The Skyeffect Lamp has been AMAZING for me, and (thus far) is keeping my depression from dipping too low. It has kept me in better spirits, and helps to keep my circadian rhythm in check. My town can be gray, and I live in an apartment complex where no direct sunlight filters into my place, so this has been immensely helpful.
