Customer Reviews of NatureBright SunTouch Plus Light and Ion Therapy LampCustomer Review: I've decided to stop using it... Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this lamp with Christmas money I received as a gift. I've been feeling down since about November, and suspected SAD. I was so excited to try this lamp, because I've had great success with other alternative therapies. I didn't notice any difference in my mood, even after 3-weeks of regular use.
A week a ago I experienced a migraine, which I haven't had in years (due to magnetic therapy- I sleep on a magnetic pillow). I am worried that the repeated use of the light threw something out of line & caused the migraine. I did an online search, and there are a few sights I found that claimed that there is a link. A few sites also said that the lights could HELP migraine suffers. I know you can't believe everything that you read online, but the fact that there is any question, and that I just had a migraine, has helped me make my decision.
One funny thing is that I actually like the smell that the ionizer puts out. For whatever reason it seems fresh to me, and I love having it on. So I'll use that, just not the lights.
Customer Review: Great Christmas Gift Summary: 5 Stars
My boyfriend bought this for me last Christmas, as it was at the top of my Amazon wish list. I have had SAD my entire life, except maybe very early childhood. Honestly, I really love it. It is very pleasant to sit by, and I really like the ionization feature, which produces a strangely pleasant smell... sort of like new plastic? I've read a few negative reviews, one said that the light is too blue. Personally, I don't see what they mean, it looks pure white to me, in fact it is similar to the "daylight" CFL bulbs that I have. All in all, it works quite well, and really does lift your spirits fairly quickly. My only complaint is that I have trouble getting up in the morning to use it for the recommended 15-30 minutes. But now I've started using it in the afternoon, and it works great!
Btw, I wish people would stop posting 1-star reviews because of DOA conditions of products, that has nothing to do with the performance of the product! Stop pulling down the rating because of a factory defect!
Customer Review: sun touch light & ion therapy lamp Summary: 4 Stars
I have suffered with depression all of my life, and in the winter it always gets worse due to S.A.D., lack of sunlight and shorter days! It's only been about a week that I have been using the lamp, and I already feel somewhat better! I'm sure that with continued use I will feel better and better! Some people were saying that when they had the ion turned on that it smelled bad, but I only noticed a plastic smell when I took the lamp out of the box, but not while using the ion part! I leave the ion on all the time....It makes the air smell better!
If you feel that you don't have the time to devote to using the lamp in the morning, think about what you do 1st thing in the AM! Do you read the paper while drinking your coffee, whatch the morning news, work on the computer? And then set up the lamp where ever you do these things! I set up mine by my computer, because I use mine while checking emails...in fact I am using my lamp right now!
All-and-all, I am very happy with my lamp purchase!
Customer Review: I Wish I Would Have Bought This Years Ago Summary: 5 Stars
I have suffered from Seasonal Affective Disorder for over seven years. It is usually a fairly insidious onset until by January or February I am not getting out of bed and sleeping for over 12 hours a day. I have literally tried everything: medication, behavioral therapy, and multiple lifestyle changes. I wish I would have purchased this years ago.
I have had this for five days and there is a huge difference in my energy, mood, and circadian rhythm. I use it for thirty minutes when I first wake up. Since waking up with SAD is very difficult, I will place it on my coffee table and will watch the morning news while using the lamp (my biggest battle is getting out of bed to the couch, which isn't too bad). Then I will use it between 5-6 p.m.
As for some of the prior reviews, I can agree that there is a smell associated when the ion therapy is in use. However, it does not bother me that much. It smells much like a new plastic item does, but I think that scent decreases with use.
Customer Review: Still works after daily use during three winters! Summary: 5 Stars
I moved from the tropics to a location with snowy winters four years ago. My first winter was pretty unbearable and I suffered from depression. For the the following winter, I researched light therapy. At the time, this light seemed like the best deal. Now it is much more affordable than when I bought it. I have used the light every winter season, starting in late September or early October through spring. I basically start using it when the day's get shorter and stop once they are longer again. I use it for about 30 minutes every morning around 6:30 a.m. for half an hour while I get ready for work. I never noticed any strange smell from the ionizer like other reviewers have mentioned, but my light is probably not from the same batch. The unit I have has worked great for three seasons now. Once one of the lights went out, but it was just loose, so I was able to open the unit and put the light back in it's place and it worked fine again. I recommend it for anyone who gets the winter blues.
