I had a sinus infection that nothing else seemed to be working for. Usually, some kind of Benadryl will do the trick, but not this time. I had a combination runny nose/congestion, and it seemed like I was taking advil every 3 or 4 hours for facial pain. One day, I went into Walgreens and walked by some sinus rinse kits. I'd been hearing about them but never wanted to try them. Finally, I decided it was time to try one and someone at Walgreens recommended this kit. Mine has 50 packets in it, or did before I started using it.
It takes a time or two to adjust to how it feels, and if you're using this while you're sick you might either need to use twice a day or more. My congestion was not *very* bad, but after two uses in one day I woke up the next day almost completely well--after being sick for about a week--and I had even felt well enough the night of those two usages to get through work without feeling bad (there was just quite a bit of nose-blowing).
Most people say it doesn't burn or sting. My experience the first time I used it was that it did sting some but not badly at all. I believe this is because I had been blowing my nose a bit prior to using it and my nasal passages were a little irritated. So be aware of that if you're blowing your nose. Even with usages when I'm not sick but just feel a little congested, I certainly can feel it stinging just a little behind my eyes, especially right after/while I'm using the rinse, and can still feel the salty mix in my nasal passages/sinus stinging just a tad. I have let my mother use my kit, and she has similar issues. It's bearable and worth it, because your sinuses are clean and your nasal passages are open. It also did seem to help with clearing up both congestion and a runny nose, though I still had the tingly sensation that leads to sneezing in my nose.
Other things: I don't use distilled water. I use tap water. Never a problem using tap water. You probably also will keep having to blow your nose a few times after using it, and there also seems to be an issue with crust, for lack of a better word, drying up inside your nose. It can get a little uncomfortable, so make sure you have kleenex to keep blowing your nose or cleaning it out. Also, when I used this while sick, both times water would just randomly come out of my nose. Quite a bit of it, too. I soaked my pillow case one time when I bowed my head. Another time, I soaked a shirt to the point of someone commenting, thinking I'd spilled food or drink on it. I have a friend who has had this issue with sinus rinse kits, as well, though I can't say for sure if she was using NeilMed. It does not do this when I am not having issues with, I guess, a runny nose, i.e. when I rinse without being sick. So don't necessarily use the rinse right before leaving to go somewhere unless you have used it before and have not had this issue, but especially if you're having issues with a runny nose.

Conclusion: despite some of the issues, I really like this product. My head feels great immediately after rinsing, especially if I'm sick, and it helped me when nothing else did as far as congestion. My mother likes it, as well, and is talking about buying more once I run out since she is using up some of mine. Some people say they use this daily; I don't and don't see any real reason to. I use it a couple times a week when I'm not sick, and I think it helps most when you are sick--otherwise, there seems to be very little difference in how I feel/breathe, even as someone who does have chronic sinus issues. It's too expensive to use daily, but it's worth the money if you need relief from congestion.
