Customer Reviews of Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock, SPF 55, 3 Ounces (Pack of 2)

Customer Review: Great for face and sensitive skin
Summary: 5 Stars

I have very sensitive skin, both to fragrance and to oiliness and other things. Unlike 95% of all other sunscreens I have tried, this does not make me break out. A great thing, because I have very fair skin and must wear an SPF 30 or higher all day every weekend (I'm indoors all day during the week).

The other great thing about it is that my face is not shiny or greasy all day when I wear it. I put it on in the morning after washing my face, and wait about 30 minutes, and I can put some makeup on over it and look nice. Or not wear makeup, and have a slightly matte look to my face. All the others I have tried, I had to wear a lot of powder over them or I would look greasy all day.

Customer Review: I use this EVERY day on the backs of my hands to avoid "liver spots"
Summary: 5 Stars

My dermatologist told me the spots on the backs of my hands were from sun exposure. She recommended I use sunblock every day, but so many of them have to be reapplied after washing your hands and WHO CAN REMEMBER TO DO THAT ALL DAY?

When I found this I was thrilled. I keep one in the bathroom and try to remember to use it every morning BUT I also keep one in the car. As soon as I start driving I look at the back of my hands and if I have forgotten the sunblock I just get it out and put it on the hands and forearms at the first red light. Exceptionally good product since it is waterproof and rubproof, blocks BOTH UVA and UVB, and is way cheaper than lots of competing products.

Customer Review: No more vampire summers
Summary: 5 Stars

I have very fair skin. Every summer I'm guaranteed to freckle/burn. For the last three years I was living in Okinawa, Japan ( a subtropical region ). I avoided the sun like the plague and all the outdoor activities I enjoyed. Then I discovered Neutrogena's Helioplex sunblock.
I decided to temp fate and took a full day snorkling trip. I reapplied everytime I got out of the water and kept my snorkling time to two hours at a whack. At the end of the trip I expected to come home with a second degree burn. Instead I came home with a tan! Technically any pigmentation from the sun is skin damage, but this was a 100% improvement for me. Now I can enjoy my summers again.

Customer Review: Works ok.
Summary: 4 Stars

This seems like a pretty good sunblock. The slime factor is low and I have yet to get burned while using it. However, my favorite sunblock, Innoxa Sun Defense, seems to work even better, and with an SPF of just "30+". Alas, Sun Defence is only sold in Australia and New Zealand but I guess they know their sunblock.

My two gripes about Neutrogena are that it has that "Sea & Ski" smell which I could do without and I don't understand why Neutrogena has to offer so many seemingly indentical products. Why would someone choose SPF 45 if the identical product is also available in SPF 55? I emailed them and got a "form" response which did not address my question.

Customer Review: From happy to okay to allergic
Summary: 2 Stars

When I first started using this late last summer, I thought it was wonderful, especially because it wasn't greasy like other sunscreens. I only used it occasionally as I was trying several new sunscreens because my former brand had been discontinued. Then I noticed it made my skin feel very dry once the central heat was on and the air was drier, so I put it aside until warmer weather. When I tried it again this spring, I found I had developed an allergy to it. It makes my face bright red, swollen, itchy and tender. I bought a two-tube pack, and I am using them up on my hands, as it doesn't seem to irritate them, but no way can I put this stuff on my face or neck.
