Customer Reviews of Neutrogena Wave Power-Cleanser and Deep Clean Foaming PadsCustomer Review: A Nice Affordable Idea, But Not As Effective As I Was Looking For Summary: 3 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I really like the design of this cleanser. It is easy to hold - it has an indentation on the back that fits very comfortably in your hand - and has a nice little "buzz" feel on your skin. It is small and easily portable. I took it with me on my vacation to England and did not have to worry about plugging it in to recharge it as it is battery operated and it is so inexpensive to purchase that I did not have to worry about losing it or damaging it in transit and replacing it. I really liked the fact that you use a new pad every day so it is very clean and you know that your face is starting off fresh every day.
The bad news is that it didn't help keep my skin clear. My skin stayed clean and clear for about a week until I started getting little break outs all over my face. My face FELT clean and nice, but I didn't like the way I looked. I have fairly acne-prone skin, even though I am in my 30s, and I have to be careful about what cleansers I use and how I clean my face or I break out. I use Neutrogena's facial cleansing products all the time and think that they have some very high quality products out there. Unfortunately, this one just didn't work for me. I wish that I had the option of selecting a different cleanser on the pad, but I didn't have that option. I have much better results with the Clarisonic brush (Clarisonic PRO Deluxe Professional 4-Speed Skin Care System, White) - but I use it with Neutrogena cleanser (my current favorite is the Neutrogena Acne Stress Control, Power-Clear Scrub, 4.2-Ounce Tubes (Pack of 3))! If you have clear skin and are looking for something a little bit more sanitary than using a washcloth or cheaper than a Clarisonic, then you might want to give this product a try.
Customer Review: surprisingly good results! Summary: 4 Stars
I thought the Neutrogena Wave looked a little gimmicky and didn't expect much, but I'm a product junkie and will try anything once. I am honestly surprised at the great results I've had with it. Everyone has noted that the product is easy to use, etc, but what I'm really pleased with is how smooth my skin is after just three days. I have combination oily/dry skin with mild to moderate breakouts and just an overall uneven/bumpy texture, and I wear a normal amount of makeup (foundation, concealer, powder as a base).
After using the Wave, I've seen (and felt) a noticeable improvement in the texture of my skin. Seriously, those annoying little bumps on my forehead are gone. I've also noticed that the Wave reduced breakouts before they could really dig in - instead of a blemish growing and lasting for up to a week, I've gotten rid of several "under the skin" blemishes in just two to three days. The third effect has been on overall oiliness - at the end of the day, my skin is less oily than normal. My pores do seem smaller.
So, even though I was prepared for disappointment, I am really happy with the results. This isn't a miracle product, but I do think the vibrations are effective. The best way to take advantage of them is to move the product over your skin slowly, letting the vibrations work the foam down into each section of pores.
I've been using the Wave pads with an extra dab of my usual (non-medicated) face wash, just because I like a little extra lather. I follow with a toner and moisturizer, per normal. I've been using this product once a day in the evening, so that my face is very clean before I go to sleep. Some people have complained about not being able to use the Wave to remove eye makeup, but I use a separate eye makeup remover anyway so that's not a concern for me.
If you are concerned about the cost of the pads, I've read other reviews suggesting using a regular round cotton pad (you'll find them next to the cotton balls in any store or pharmacy; they are round and flat just like the Wave pads) or cutting your own out of felt and then adding your own face wash.
Customer Review: Surprisingly effective and gentle Summary: 5 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I am usually a fan of products by Neutrogena, so I took a chance on this particular item which is something that I wouldn't have necessarily considered otherwise. When it comes to skin care, I am a very low-maintenance person. Soap and water and acne medicine. However, I have, on occasion been known to pay for professional facials as a luxury item and fully appreciated the change in my skin texture. I even got my husband hooked on them. As the mother of 2 children under the age of 3, I have precious little time to spend on indulgences such as advanced skin care. This product really surprised me. I expected to use it a few times and stick it back in the closet to collect dust. After one time, I am hooked. The first time out of the box the instructions were simply enough that I had it assembled and working in under 3 minutes. When I started to use it, I thought it was almost too easy and expected to be disappointed with the results. I was not. My skin tends to be on the dry side and does not naturally exfoliate well. There is a visible and tangible difference in the texture of my face after a single use. My skin literally felt baby-soft, which I love. The full treatment itself took only 5 minutes, which I also love. I cannot say that I would do this daily, but a couple of times a week wouldn't be hard to squeeze in even for stay-at-home moms who need a little pampering. While I didn't see a tremendous difference in pore clarity with the first use, it does improve with subsequent uses. Mostly, I was very impressed with the ease of use, speed of process and overall change in skin texture with one 5-minute application. If you have considered expensive skin treatments, this gives the kind of softness over several uses that you would get from a pro-facial at a fraction of the time and cost. I recommend it very highly and even moreso as someone who has very sensitive skin.
Customer Review: very good for the price . . . Summary: 4 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I've got pretty good feeling towards Neutrogena's, well, *soaps*, but this is the first time I've stepped beyond them. This is an inexpensive, battery-operated face-washing gizmo that retails for around $12. I didn't expect a lot; cheap price + battery power tends to equal poor performance with most things, but this pink product works pretty well, is comfortable to use and even the replacement pads aren't terribly expensive.
As others have mentioned, the pads don't really foam up much. This doesn't bother me as it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the very real fact that my skin feels better after using this for three weeks. I don't know much about the chemistry of soap - it's possible that "foam" has no real function other than to signify cleaning power.
The chief advantage in this product is that I utterly hate the necessary face-cleaning-at-night procedure and sometimes just ignore doing it. This product works in the shower, and I've taken to doing my face there at night and just kind of relaxing while I stand under the warm water. I've also got a tendency to really scrub - I'm told that's "bad" - and this little fellow doesn't have enough power to really exfoliate - the idea that this is "dermabrasion" is a bit laughable. That could be a criticism, but I've found that gentler but regular cleanings seem to be doing my skin better than irregular but stronger ones. Your mileage may vary, of course.
After roughly 18 cleanings, I still haven't changed the single battery it uses, so that's a plus.
Does this do a better job treating your skin than an equivalent Neutrogena soap product would do if you used just a washcloth? Probably not, so the point of this product lies mostly in one's sense of routine. I like it, though it would be nice to see the product slightly revamped for better shower "storage."
Customer Review: Doing the Wave for the Neutragena Wave Summary: 4 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
the Neutrogena Wave Power Cleanser promises to remove more dirt, oil and makeup than ordinary cleansers, deeply clean your pores, sluff off dead skin, and leave your face glowing.
The kit comes with a a hand-held vibrating cleanser and two packs of pre-soaped pads (14 total) and batteries.
You place the pads onto the head of the vibrating cleanser, turn it on, run it under water, and gently scrub your face in circular motions. Once you are finished with the pad, you peel it off and throw it away.
What I like:
The Neutragena Wave Power Cleanser gently cleans your face. It does not leave your face red or raw as some abrasive, pore-cleaning cleansers can do. It is portable - it can fit into your makeup bag and can be used at the sink or in the shower.
What I don't like:
Try as I have, I can't find the replacement pads for this product. I visited two grocery stores and one drug store in my area (Anchorage) and could not find the pads.
The Claims:
1. It removes make-up and dirt that other cleansers leave behind.
TRUE. I tested this assertion by washing my face with different products, including Noxema, Estee Lauder, and Biore Deep Pore Cleanser. Each time, the Neutragena Wave removed even more dirt/makeup.
2. It deeply cleans your pores.
FALSE. Although this product did a great job at cleaning my face, it did not go down deep and clean my pores. A scrub was necessary for that.
3. It gently removes dead skin and leaves your face glowing.
True. After two weeks of using this product, my face did feel smoother and appear brighter.
The bottom line:
A good, portable product for face cleaning. Great if used in combination with a deep pore scrub.
