Customer Reviews of Neutrogena Wave Power-Cleanser and Deep Clean Foaming PadsCustomer Review: This Might Be the Silliest Doodad Ever Summary: 2 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Giving this device two stars is pretty generous. I'm only doing it because using it actually does make you skin feel fairly soft - but so does washing and cleansing your face the good old fashion way: with you hands and a gentle facial scrub or exfoliant. I was actually fairly intrigued when I saw this, as I'm all for a clean face, especially before I sleep. The instructions are easy enough, and I was pleased that a battery came with the device. The Wave Power came with 14 pads that adhere like velcro to the doodad. Each pad is contained with a deep cleansing foaming product. Put the battery in, attach the pad, wet the pad and then gently massage your face. Simple, right? One of my immediate frustrations was the amount of soapy/foamy water that dripped down my face as I was massaging it with the Wave Power. It got to the point of annoyance. Perhaps I was soaking with too much water? So I tried again the next night with less water, and the same problem persisted. The mess factor was a turn off, and so too was the taste of the soap/foam in my mouth. The massage function is really silly. The vibrations, in my opinion, don't do a thing. It's like putting your cell phone on vibrate to your face. I can get a better massage using my fingers and pressure to my face, or perhaps even a damp face towel. Do we really need another plastic gadget? My advice is to use what you have - your hands and a good facial cleanser. This is yet another silly plastic doodad that you can easily bypass.
Customer Review: Nice but Expensive for Daily Use Summary: 3 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
This is a nice little device and was easy to use. The "scrubbing" action was fairly gentle and non-abrasive and I'll admit I was a little surprised to find my skin really was softer after using it. Regular Neutrogena Soap can sometimes be too drying for my skin, which is admittedly sensitive, but the cleaning pads had soap that was gentle enough that my skin didn't redden or become irritated.
My reluctance regarding long term use is that the cleaning pads are somewhat pricey - currently $19.50 for a supply of 30. While the product is nice, it comes out on the losing end of a comparison between liquid or bar soap or a cleaning cream - or even cleaning wipes made by competitors. That said, there are also plenty of products that are far more expensive than this in the high end market (more geared toward the aging adult).
In addition, the power cleaner isn't recommended around the eye area, so you'd have to clean your face with another product for that (which you could probably use on your whole face) - at additional cost. What I did instead was let the cleaning pad suds-up a bit and I applied the soap to my eyes minus the power cleaner.
I think this product is probably more geared toward the teen and young adult market, who have more oily skin and probably need deeper cleaning than an older female like me. It's a nice little product, but the monthly cost of use will be more expensive than the cost of the device itself.
Customer Review: my review..... Summary: 3 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I also tested this product through the vine program. I have some different skin care issues and here's how the wave worked for me with a once daily use for a week now:
1-I'm 38, with combination skin.
2-I have a skin condition-mild rosacea, so I consider my skin sensitive. Some exfolliants have been known to really dry out, burn and flake my skin.
3-I do not wear make up.
The wave is simple to use and was easy on my skin-the pads are not abrasive. For the first few days, I've not seen much change, but towards the end of the week, my skin is starting to feel smoother. It does NOT seem to help or hurt my Rosacea, and most disappointing, the large pores on my nose seem no smaller, even though the product is supposed to reduce pores.
I did try two different ways to use the wave: I applied my own cleanser to the pad-worked fine. I also tried the round "cotton ball" type pads you can buy cheaply (used normally to apply astringant and about $1 a pack at the drug store) with my own cleanser-worked fine. So this would be a way to use your wave, even if you need to use another cleansing product. It also seems this product would be ideal to apply facial scrubs and masks when you do not want to get your hands all goopy.
All in all-I would say, depending on how cheaply you can get the wave, I'd recommend it. Though I wouldn't pay over $10 for it.
Customer Review: Works but is limited Summary: 3 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
As described this product does work in the shower; cleanser pad is easy to attach/detach; fits in hand well and does provide a decent cleansing experience for the face and neck. However, I would not necessarily get rid of my cleansing sponges, brushes or wash cloths. This item is a supplement not a replacement.
Some of the issues that I had were:
* the cleansing pads are not in a sealable container but that maybe remedied if you get the replacement box (I only had the starter pack);
* It is not as flexible as simply using a wash cloth especially around the nostril/nasal area. I ended up applying too much pressure in attempting to clean the crud around the nostrils that I ended up over scrubbing and got the red patches, which leads to three;
* You have to be careful in using this product if you have sensitive skin because it can get abrasive with pressure. It reminded me of some derm abrasion kits in that sense. If you have sensitive skin I would only use this once a week;
* If you have dry skin or winter skin be prepared to have a facial moisturiser ready to go because it will get you face clean and can be veery drying;
* You will still need to have a plan in washing the sensitive eye area. DO NOT use this product to close to the eye area -- it is way too rough for use.
Overall, this product was OK but I would not rely it solely for cleansing in my facial regimen.
Customer Review: Not Too Drying Summary: 5 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I am one of those with an odd combination of skin issues; I tend to have acne despite dry skin which tends to become painfully more dry with daily cleaning. Most facial soaps are harsh enough that I can not use them more than twice weakly, but the Neutrogena Wave is far more gentle. I use it daily unless the environment is generally dry, in which case I have no problem using it every other day. After two weeks, my acne is actually clearing up somewhat. At 33 and after years of trying everything on the market including prescription treatments, I have to admit I'm pleased.
The Wave is small, about 3", and uses relatively thick pads (they aren't paper thin like many disposable facial scrubbers) with a velcro-like attachment that works very well without slippage. Refill packs come with a replacement head, but I haven't found a need to make use of it just yet. The unit vibrates as you clean and this seems to aid the pre-soaped pads' cleaning ability. Others have mentioned that it doesn't lather a great deal, but I have not found this to be an issue regarding the quality of the results.
The Wave uses a single AA battery and works just fine on a rechargeable. I find it ergonomic, also. Despite the pink color of my model, my husband has taken to using it for himself and is pleased with it, as well. I highly recommend this convenient and well-designed little scrubber.
