Customer Reviews of Omron HBF-306C Fat Loss Monitor, BlackCustomer Review: great product, very e-z to use Summary: 5 Stars
I have to respectfully disagree with the previous negative review left for this product. I suppose my 1st question would be: How accurate was the reading you were comparing to the Omron reading??? I find the Omron Body Fat Analyzer to be extremely accurate, and very easy to use. No more messing with calipers, wondering if the calipers pinched enough, and wondering if I'm using the calipers in the correct location(s). With the Omron, you simply plug-in your age, height, weight and place your hands on the sensors and --- voila! Instant body fat reading. Having said this, the directions do state that certain criteria (time of day, when you ate last, etc) should be followed to ensure an accurate reading. Overall, I am very pleased with this product, and would highly recommend it. I now rely on this more than I do our scale, as I am more focused on body fat % than weight.
Customer Review: Great Body Fat monitor Summary: 4 Stars
I had used this body fat monitor at the gym prior to purchasing so I knew the high quality product I was ordering. It came quickly and for the price is an excellent way to measure body fat in the convenience of your own home. We have 2 different people programmed into the unit and it is pretty easy to select each person. If you want to change your programmed weight (as you are losing it!) you will have to scroll through all of the entries to see what you had it set at last. It keeps your last selection, so this process is very quick.
One note for tall people... It will only accurately measure for people up to 6'6". There are no selections above that height. This was a small disappointment and not sure why they chose to stop there. We decided it can still be used to track changes and trends, even if it is not 100% accurate for guys above that height.
Customer Review: Works well, too many clicks Summary: 4 Stars
Years ago, I bought a fat monitoring scale, and am thrilled with the idea of seeing what my body fat percentage is. Traveling was a problem because the scale was too cumbersome to take with me. This device fits easily into luggage, and as long as my destination includes a scale, I'm set. The only problem I have with the device is in the number of clicks for a single use. 1 Turn device on. 2 Tell it I'm user #1. 3 Confirm that my height is the same it was last time. 4 Confirm that my gender is the same as it was last time. 5 Confirm that my age is the same as it was last time. 6+ As many clicks as necessary to adjust my weight by half-pound increments since last time. 7 press the Start button. Considering that height, gender, and age change very slowly over one's lifetime and weight is changing constantly, I would have preferred if they ask for the weight first.
Customer Review: Measurements inherently flawed Summary: 1 Stars
I had a series of electronic body composition measurements taken at a gym over a period of months. The practitioner used electrodes all over my body, with skin preparation as would be used for an EKG, and still the variation in readings was far greater than could be possible, thus invalid. As others have said, get calipers and learn how to use them.
Also, people, forget about BMI. This was a measurement developed to study POPULATIONS, and never intended for the evaluation of individuals. Use common sense. How can a value that considers only weight and height be a valid reflection of an individual's health and fitness? Muscle is denser than fat, so an individual with minimal muscle will show a lower BMI than a heavily-muscled one of the same stature. Are we to believe that the lower BMI in this example indicates the healthier of the two? Nonsense!
Customer Review: Quick and easy to use Summary: 4 Stars
I work in a human performance lab at my school and we use this product daily as part of our assessments. it works for about 95% of the people who use it. the other percentage it gives an error message and we do not know why this happens for some people and not others. usually comes within +/- 3 or 4 of skinfold assessments
one thing is to make sure you weight yourself with an ACCURATE scale EVERY time you use this because small changes in weight input can effect the reading
also, it is sensitive to your hydration level so try to do it at the same time everyday (preferably pre-exercise) and at a similar hydration level.
overall this is great for mass use, as we have hundreds of people come through the lab every semester, but as a professional i would rather use skinfolds because it is more accurate and less depending on variables.
