Customer Review: scale's measurement accuracy ....weight ok...bodyfat not so much

so the reason i got this scale was for the bodyfat percentage feature...thinking it was somewhat like the handheld ones. i know from other methods i'm around 12% bf...visible abs. according to this scale i was 26%...laughable. i know it sounds like i'm in denial...but trust me, i'm nowhere near 26. Weight seems about right...i'm 207...at 6'4. it would fluctuate .5 to .6 per pound if i stepped of and back on after a second.
i've returned this item and have opted to go with the cheaper option of calipers.
the instructions say this scale is not for highly trained athletes, so my assumption is that if your bf% is low, this is not the scale for you.
just being honest.

I was looking for a digital scale that would help me to keep track of my weight loss after I stopped going to the weight loss clinic. I got the scale about 2 weeks prior to stopping the program. I would weigh myself at home (with cloths on) and then go straight there and be weighed. It was right on both times. So this scale is very accurate, as far as the weight goes. I don't know exactly about the body fat monitor, but it is a good (yet depressing :-)) gage. It is light and nice looking. Easy to use, but you do need to read the instructions all the way through. I like the memory feature, so I know if I've gained or lost during the week. This is a great mid priced scale. This scale is very accurate when measuring weight. It is very repeatable and seems to be right on. But the Body Fat Monitor an BMI calculations evidently don't work for athletes with low body fat. I have been tested a number of other methods and I am usually around 6% body fat. When I step on this scale, it measures me at around 19-20% almost every time, so it isn't even close. I was thinking it wouldn't be exact being it only measures as low as 5% but I really thought it would be closer than that. It is still a good tool if you are working to lower you percentage of body fat because you could monitor if you are going the right direction, but it doesn't do what I hoped it would.Customer Review: consitent measures, but inaccurate

The Omron HBF-400 was far from fulfilling my expectations. The ONLY reason I bought this scale over a "simpler" one was because of the %BF feature, which happened to be a fiasco. My %BF oscillates around the mid 20s. According to this scale I'm 38% fat!! My body composition was measured in a BODPOD (a VERY VERY expensive machine) last summer and it was 34.5% back then, when I did not even work out. You get the picture. If you are out to monitor your body fat, I highly encourage you to stay away from this product. Even if it works for you initially, once you become an "athlete" (translate: not sedentary) it won't work. I just use this scale for weight. I do not use the body-fat or memory features. But, if you want a durable, accurate scale with repeatable measurements, this is it. I was surprised at how well the scale appears to be constructed for the price. Weight resolves to 0.2 pounds, resolves within about 5 seconds, and provides repeatable measurements. For weight measurement alone, I suggest this inexpensive scale. (Update: After about a year the rubber pads at the bottom of each of the four short legs of the scale peeled off from moving it around a hard floor. No big deal. Still accurate, but rocks a bit on the uneven floor sometimes because the leg bottoms are now hard and not soft.)
