Customer Reviews of Omron HEM 629 Auto Inflate Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor

Customer Review: Incredible Little Item
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a nurse. I saw one of these blood pressure cuffs being used by another nurse, and asked her about it, then, promptly ordered one for myself. At that time it was 100.00, through a cnursing catalogue. I work in a busy rehab center where I take atleast 8-20 blood pressures daily. What my patients say about this is, "Wow, it didn't tighten my arm at all." "Didn't hurt a bit." "I've never seen one like it."
A doctor and myself measured readings done manually and readings done by this little machine, and found either way to be only a couple of numbers different.
My mom loves it, and we found the same model on Amazon for alot cheaper than 100.00. I have had poor experiences with another wrist blood pressure monitor that was 39.99. This little Omron is quick, easy, and correct.
Some of it's features: If you move your arm while you take the blood pressure, it shows an E for error. The batteries last about three motnhs. On this model, there is no battery indicator. It stores over 10 blood pressure readings. It also measures the pulse. There's no date or time stamp, but I didn't have good luck with the model with that feature.
To me, every house should have one of these cuffs, not the cheaper priced cuffs that donot work. I've used it at home and at work consistently, and I will buy the exact same cuff again. I hope Omron doesn't stop making them.

Customer Review: awful
Summary: 1 Stars

The reviews seem generally good, but clearly a high proportion of what they turn out is defective, and customer service serves mainly to obstruct rather than replace. We bought two in succession and had the same experience. When they worked, they were fine. We followed all instructions and made normal use of them. In a short time, they began to show error messages or simply not register anything. Thinking logically, we replaced the batteries. No difference. We called customer service. They put us through an inquisition, suggesting that our (normal) wrists were the wrong size, that we used then too much, etc. Really outlandish. The aim was clearly to blame the victim. We passed every test, but all they offered us was an unwieldy return, charges, an indefinite period without a meter.
My local drug store tells me that they have received similar complaints and are no longer carrying this item.
I wouldn't gamble on this one: you may be the person who has a good experience with it, but, after two bad experiences, I think the odds are poor.

Customer Review: Omron HEM629 BP Monitor is Impressive
Summary: 5 Stars

VERY impressed with the Omron HEM629 Auto-inflate BP Monitor. It's truly is Impressive! Reasonably priced, compact, very easy to use and accurate. First tested the unit on myself as my BP and pulse are consistent and easy obtain. Then tested the unit on my wife who's BP is very difficult to get. We were very skeptical of the unit at first because she normally requires a trained nurse to get BP using a large cuff with a stethescope and pulse taken manually. But the Omron HEM629 BP Monitor was so easy that my wife placed it on her own wrist, placed it up high by her heart while in a relaxed state, pressed the button (unit has amazing power!) and got accurate readings which were VERY close to those take in the doctors offices. The key is to follow the directions to the letter and hopefully you will have the same good experience we've had. Have only had the unit about a month so can't attest yet to duration but it comes with a warranty. Thank you.

Customer Review: Don't be fooled, totally unreliable, look elsewhere
Summary: 1 Stars

I read many reviews for this type of product & was convinced by one of them from a nurse. EVERY time I have tried this I get a different reading, even back to back readings. Talking to my doctor, he said that was totally possible. But when I told him the variance between readings, he said that there should not be that wide of a variance. Another disappointment is CLEARLY marked on the box: "STOP!! Please Read Before Opening: Due to the nature of this product, product that has been worn or used cannot be returned to the place of purchase." How are you supposed to try it without wearing it? It goes around your wrist, no bodily fluids contact it, what makes that non-returnable? Clothing that does not fit can be returned. This is the first time I have felt compelled enough to write a review on the countless number of things that I have purchased on Amazon.com, but I really feel like I have been sold a piece of junk!

Customer Review: Defect...Cuff Pump...Poor Warranty...Cheap Company...
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this unit about 3 weeks ago and within one week the cuff pump doesn't pump up as it should. I checked with the seller (bought it online), she said that she has the same experience once.

I called Omron and they said that I can send it in for repair along with $5.00 for return postage. I told them that this is a defective unit (manufacturer's defect), they should not charge customer for return postage.

I feel that Omron who shipped the defective product should have the courtesy to paid for their own postage. The fault is with them and not consumers, thus we should NOT have to paid for their mistakes.

This is the first and last for me, I do not recommend buying any unit from Omron. There are many other choices, make sure that you do your research and watchout on those rules regarding warranty information.

Good luck.

Unhappy consumer
