Customer Reviews of Omron HEM-650 Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor with APS (Advanced Positioning Sensor)

Customer Review: Omron blood pressure cuff review from dental professional
Summary: 4 Stars

After doing a little research on the Internet to find an accurate and user-friendly blood pressure device, this product was rated the highest for accuracy and ease of use. To these claims, I would absolutely agree. However, the only downside to using it is the occasional inability to get a reading at all. In order for it to work, one has to simply place on left wrist and place that wrist across the chest, resting near the heart. (Like one would with the right hand for the Pledge of Allegiance.) But if a woman is bigger-chested or if the person is inclined back just a little too far, it doesn't read a blood pressure. For 3 weeks I have used this, and it is SO EASY and I'd recommend it to anyone, but realize that 1 of every 15 people it was a little challenging and I had to try several times just to find that right spot on their chest before it worked.

Customer Review: great for seniors
Summary: 4 Stars

the wrist bp monitor is a lot easier to use than the one that wraps around the arm. initially, i was concerned about the accuracy of this type of monitor, but after checking out the reveiws, i thought we should try it at the assisted living facility at which I work. the instructions which came with the monitor made the use seem more difficult than how it actually ended up. a staff person from another facility showed me an easier way to use it. put the monitor of your wrist (left wrist), raise your arm across your chest and hold or place the left arm on the right shoulder. that seems to be the easiest way to get the correct position - and the positioning must be correct to get the monitor to work. i've taken it to have it checked by a physician and it all seems to be working correctly.
Thanks for having this product available.

Customer Review: Excellent unit.
Summary: 5 Stars

Purchased the unit to both check blood pressure, but more specifically to monitor frequency of mild atrial fibrillation [the severe episodes announce themselves]. Follow instructions and you will have no trouble with set-up. Unit reflects instances of irregular heartbeat, and then stores information. When you hit "memory" the first set of numbers is the "average" of all tests taken to date [up to 90], and then as you repeat hitting memory you may review each previous test in chronological order. Keeping a log of circumstances at test time will help identify possible sources triggering less than desireable readings. Instructions are step by step and easy to follow. Memory reflects test results, date of test, time of day, and if irregular beat was detected. Batteries are included; uses standard AAA right off of the store shelf.

Customer Review: Can not be relied upon for accurate BP readings
Summary: 1 Stars

I gave this product 1 star because it simply can not be relied upon. If you are watching your BP, you need to have an accurate reading. I have been using the Omron HEM-711 arm cuff for years, and verified its readings while in my Dr's office, and it is very accurate. I bought this wrist cuff because I thought it would be more portable, but was very disappointed in the accuracy.

The SYS reading was a much as 15 to 20 points below, and the DIA was around 10 points below what the arm cuff was telling me. The pulse reading was right on. The wrist cuff will not inflate until it is in the correct position relative to your heart, so I know I was wearing it correctly and had it positioned correctly.

This is completely unacceptable and downright dangerous if you're trying to keep a eye on your BP.

Customer Review: Accurate and Easy. Beats the Bicep Arm Models!
Summary: 5 Stars

These are accurate, sooooooo easy to slip on my wrist, and are sophisticated with memory, irregular heart beat alert, huge memory, etc.

I've used the upper arm, wrap around velcro models for many years, and they all work just fine.. only problem is that I have to take my sweater or shirt off to use... which is no big deal, but since my doctor sometimes wants me to take readings 3-4 times a day for a month to see the results of hypertension med changes, the upper arm readers become a big inconvenience over time.

This Omron wrist product is great... easy to use ..... I've used Omron products for years and trust their readings, so now I have a convenient Omron wrist machine.

If you're looking for a high quality, convenient, easy-to-use blood pressure reader, THIS IS THE ONE!
