Customer Reviews of Omron HEM-670IT Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor with APS (Advanced Positioning Sensor) and Advanced Omron Health Management SoftwareCustomer Review: Great little device if it works for you (didn't work for me). Summary: 2 Stars
I like everything about this device expect that it would not give an accurate reading for me. I have read that many people have great success with the Omron HEM-670IT but neither of the two that I tried (I tried 2 different units through Amazon) would give me an accurate reading (thanks for a great return system Amazon.com). I have an upper arm cuff style B.P. monitor that I borrowed and had verified against the B.P. monitor that my doctor's office uses every time I go into the office for an appointment and it checked out essentially exactly the same every time. Unfortunately both HEM-670IT's were 12-18 points high for the systolic value on every reading I tried and it fluctuated unpredictably within that range so you can't simply add 12 or 15 points and expect to have an accurate reading. The first unit I tried was pretty much perfect on the diastolic reading compared to the borrowed and verified meter however the second HEM-670IT gave me diastolic values that were low by about 5 points on every reading. The pulse rates matched almost exactly on all of the units. I tried all the different configurations and locations on both my wrists that I could think of and nothing seemed to help make the readings any better with the HEM-670IT. I wish it had worked out because the size, features and portability were exactly what I was looking for. After returning the Omron HEM-670IT's I purchased an Omron HEM-790IT and will see how it performs once it arrives. The HEM-670IT should be a great unit if it givess you accurate readings but it just didn't work for me and I don't believe there is anything odd about me that should keep it from working properly (my doctor doesn't think so either).
Customer Review: Husband saw mine, had to have one too. Summary: 4 Stars
Been using this one for over a year now. I had an earlier version that did not download the data to the computer. I replaced it with this one and gave my old one to my husband. Once he saw what the new one did, he wanted one too. (The old one was passed along to a relative).
The device seems to be pretty accurate, but I have had an infrequent oddball reading. When I have the oddball reading, I just do it once or twice more (use the 2 readings that agree). I have taken it to doctor's offices and it seems to be right on the mark.
The charts are an easy way for doctor's to quickly scan the data, much easier than looking at all the raw data points.
My one complaint is with the software - wish it had more options for displaying data. Supposedly there is a way to ignore certain data points, but for me, it only works when printing out raw data and not on charts. (i.e. If I have taken three readings in a few minutes time, I would like only one reading to count, not all three.) Using all three skews the results. There is a way to set the unit so that it will average several readings taken within a short period of time.
I do enjoy not spending the evening before a doctor's appointment entering by hand all of my blood pressure readings. The unit is sturdy - it has taken lots of abuse from me. Batteries are easily replaced.
UPDATE: 4 year old grandaughter saw me use it and of course wanted to try it. Was unable to fasten the cuff tight enough to make it work. The old model worked on her small wrist.
Customer Review: Very cool, but maybe not accurate if used incorrectly. Summary: 4 Stars
I wanted something the kids wouldn't play with but yet easy to take quick measurements, so I looked into Omron's HEM-670IT which comes with a small (approx 4"x3"x3") plastic carrying case. It seems some reviewers question the information which scared me, but I purchased anyway. In trying it, I learned it is fairly complicated (but damn cool) and could see how some people might get bad readings. There is some magic detector that tells you when your wrist is level with your heart (palm usually ends up on shoulder). The meter will not inflate and take measurements until you place it at the correct level (very repeatable) UNLESSSSSS you, for some reason odd reason, turn that feature OFF; then you could be doing a head stand and it will test blood pressure.
I took many readings (dozens) at home and it seemed very repeatable and LOW, which made me think I was a sucker like some other people feel about it in reviews. HOWEVER, I brought it to the doctor with my old Omron arm cuff meter for comparison to the doctors tests and I operated the HEM-670IT just like I did at home and it gave me repeatably HIGHER readings (15 points) when compared to home, but within 5 points of doctors (not nurses) multiple readings. I thought I was over white coat syndrome a LONG time ago, but it seems like the HEM-670IT IS ACCURATE FOR ME and I'm not over white coat syndrome UNLESS the cuff is somehow detecting a medical professional nearby and does something differently *laughs*.
Customer Review: Not accurate at all Summary: 1 Stars
Well, wouldn't it be nice to have a OMRON blood pressure monitor when you are on the road? Indeed it would. I owe a OMRON HEM-790IT since December 2007 and I'm quit happy with it. It reads a bit different as the doctor in his office, but we all know this effect.
Now since I was satisfied with the OMRON-790IT I thought it might be a good idea to have an other one for the road. A smaller and easier version, so I ordered this OMRON HEM-670IT wrist blood pressure monitor. And since I had both I was able to compare. This 670IT has a mind on his own. It was off (or lets specify it better: different) to the other one by 10-20 points. Not just less or just more. No, sometimes 20 more, then 10 times less. And so on.
It has something what Omron calls IntelliSense, which lets you raise your wrist up to your heart before it starts measuring. Well since then I know my heart must be in my throat. Because there it started measuring. Sometimes. Sometimes this thing found my heart somewhere in my stomach.
And last but not least: Omron changed the USB plug on their side of the strip. Now you need two USB cables when you go on the road and you have the Omron wrist monitor 670IT and a Omron pedometer (HJ-720ITC). Well that's what we need in these days - a senseless cable more.
After this experience I send the 670IT back and will take the bulky, but fine Omron 790IT with me on the road. At least I save the cable more.
Customer Review: Do You Really Want to Know Your Blood Pressure? Summary: 4 Stars
I've always monitored my blood pressure using those sit down stations you find in drug store, at work, and other locations. I was interested in knowing how my pressure varied in different situations. There are a lot of options - cuff-type, wrist watch-style, and various travel options. I opted for the Omron HEM-670IT model. It can be used on your wrist - easier than putting on an arm band cuff. It's self-inflating, and best of all, it comes with software and automatic data download to your computer. It's a relatively small device and comes with a hard plastic travel case. It comes with a USB download cable and the required batteries. I've been using it for several months now and couldn't be happier. It's easy to use and tells you when you have it in the correct location to get an accurate reading. Downloading the data is a piece of cake. Loading the software on your computer is also easy. Best of all, the software also works with the Omron pedometers (I also ordered one of those after the good results I've had with the blood pressure monitor). Is it perfect? Hard to say. I've used it while measuring my blood pressure with other devices - it provides similar results. If you're looking for absolute trends you'd probably need to compare with a professional reading - I have not done that yet. But it does seem to be within plus or minus a could of points -- good enough to see if you pressure is changing and identify trends.
