Customer Reviews of Omron HEM-711AC Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor with Standard Cuff

Customer Review: I Like It, But The Diastolic Is Always Low
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this because of the reviews, but discovered something that I haven't seen in any of them. Shortly after I got it, I took it to by Dr's office to compare it. I had suspected that the diastolic was running low as I always got between 52 and 58. In the Dr's office, my diastolic was 70. I replaced an Omron wrist monitor becasue I knew it was running high on the systolic, however it is accurate for the diastolic.

They checked how I was taking my BP and said I was doing it right. I read and reread the instructions and called customer service. They told me to try a large cuff which gave the same reading. I wasted $18 for nothing.

MY BIGGEST CONCERN ABOUT THE DIASTOLIC BEING LOW IS THAT OFTEN THE DIASTOLIC IS WHAT THE DR'S WORRY ABOUT MOST. A difference of around 20 points makes a huge difference on the diastolic. If you get 79 and its really 99, you won't really know that you are running high.

What I do is use my Omron wrist monitor to get the diastolic and the Omron 711AC for the systolic. A bit of a nusiance, but it seemed like less of a hassle than sending it in.

Customer Review: IntelliSense - an improvement or a big mistake?
Summary: 4 Stars

Six years ago I bought an earlier model of Omrom blood pressure monitor for my mother (I cannot recall the model number). That model did not have IntelliSense. If my mother did not adjust the cuff properly, then the old model would give an error message. Once the cuff was adjusted exactly in accordance with instructions, the monitor would show the correct readings. The new Omron HEM-711AC monitor with IntelliSense takes the readings in any case, however, if the cuff is not properly adjusted, then the numbers can be awfully wrong. I tried it on myself. First I palced the cuff 1 inch above the elbow (rather than the required 1/2 inch above the elbow), and it displayed a systolic pressure of 159 (this one really scared me - I almost called my doctor). Then I placed the cuff 1/2 inch lower (where it should be), and this time it read 118, which is my normal systolic pressure.

Bottomline: if you see a very high systolic reading - don't panic. Maybe your blood pressure is OK, it's just IntelliSense. If you carefully adjust the cuff, then in most cases you would get accurate readings.

Customer Review: Excellent BP monitor
Summary: 5 Stars

Before purchasing this product, I was using an old, manual unit that was showing signs of age as far as accuracy and had very few features. The Omron unit has the features I need and appears to be accurate, based on the readings I have seen at my doctor's office. The self inflating cuff is a really nice feature. The display is large and easy to read, is laid out nicely, and gives systolic, diastolic and pulse readings at a glance. The memory holds the last 30 readings and gives an average of BP and pulse at the touch of a button. The unit also has a plug-in DC power supply that I find really nice. No more replacing batteries. The unit also records irregular heartbeats, but as far as I know I don't have that condition so I can't speak to how well that option works.

I was recently diagnosed with high blood pressure and my old unit was giving some very scary and unreliable readings. In order to accurately monitor my blood pressure I needed a reliable, accurate unit and the Omron 711AC does the job for a very reasonable price. I highly recommend this unit.

Customer Review: Easy to use. Good BP pamplet summary. Ackward case.
Summary: 4 Stars

Have not done a 1-1 with doctor office readings but if you learn about taking BP, you need to be at a rested state. The published numbers you are comparing against are for rested state. Sometimes at the Doctors office you can be more stressed depending on the visit nature.

The led is very easy to read. It provides a running 3 test average. I always do three readings to get one average. It keeps track of many more readings but I record them anyway for review when at doctor's office.

Both batteries (been using mine 1 year with same) and AC adapter.

Case is ackward to store all the parts when you include the AC adapter. Could have been thought out better. You need to take care not to get the cuff and hose crimped or squashed if you want to put it all back in the case each time. I think if the zipper was at the top in a lid fashion and the case wider so the AC adapter could side aside the unit and cuff it would be better.

But other than the obvious lack of thought on design of the case, I found it worth owning.

Customer Review: I have great blood pressure, for those who were worried.....
Summary: 4 Stars

Okay, I think I must have joked too many times with potential dates and amours about their heart and blood pressure...So what popped up at Christmas a blood pressure monitor.

I must say it works great!!! It comes with a nifty little booklet on Managing High Blood Pressure. It explains the basics: What it is, What it does to your body, and What you can do about it.

It is very easy to use: pretty much just put the cuff on like the directions, relax, press the on button, wait for the heart symbol, and then press start. Easy as can be, until the cuff starts feeling like your arm is being squeezed off.

This monitor gives the systolic and diastolic pressure along with the pulse rate. This monitor even keeps memory of your readings. Kewl, huh!!!

So if you want something simple and easy buy this one I have found it fun to take my blood pressure during the day after all kinds of activities:)

I can absolutely say I am in great health, blood pressure health that is, 110 over 70. So take care of your heart and blood pressure.

girldiver:)
