Customer Reviews of Omron HEM-712CLC Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor with Large CuffCustomer Review: Better than ears Summary: 5 Stars
When working as ER physician, I would frequently listen to blood pressure readings using a stethescope and my own ears before making decisions about iv medications. But, for home use, I always recommend that people use an automatic cuff because it takes the fudge-factor out. I'll frequently have patients tell me their blood pressure's doing great (when it's actually very elevated) when they listen with a stethescope. The automatic reading doesn't allow for the mistake from poor hearing, poor stethescope skills, or just unconscious wishful thinking.
As for automatic cuffs, I've found the Omron brand to be very reliable (actually was required to use this brand once in a research project I did with a new blood pressure medication).
If you're interested in lowering your blood pressure (and your doctor agrees) I'd also recommend that you use a combination of "The Abs Diet, Eat Right Every Time," alternating with a weekly fast using "The Miracle of Fasting" by Paul Bragg as a guide.
The most powerful way to lower weight and blood pressure without medication is to gradually work your way up to walking about 20 miles per week. It seems outrageous to most with high blood pressure...but there is a way to go from sedentary to active (see my website).
Also, I'd recommend the Resperate device sold here as a proven way to lower blood pressure (all effects will be minimal without walking).
Again, check all this out with your physician first.

Customer Review: Good Product at a Good Price Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered the Omron HEM-712CLC from Amazon after much research and can also confirm that this unit comes with the large cuff for an arm circumference of 13 to 17 inches (hence the designation "LC" at the end of the model number which stands for large cuff). I also was initially confused by the product description here on Amazon's page which notes the product has a 9-13 inch cuff but the description is wrong--as of the date of this review--my unit came with the large cuff (13 to 17 inches).
I was recently diagnosed with high blood pressure and my cardiologist recommended an Omron machine for home use to keep track of my blood pressure as I started on medication. After much online and in-store research I felt this unit was good quality, had all the features I wanted, and had the best price.
I am quite happy with my decision and the unit so far. It's easy to use, gives accurate readings and the large cuff fits me well. My cardiologist told me a large cuff is important for me to get the most accurate readings. If your arm is smaller than 13" you will want to go for a smaller cuff. I don't have a smaller cuff yet but if my wife wanted to use the machine, it looks like the cuffs can be interchanged quite easily by simply unplugging from the machine the rubber hose from one size cuff and plugging in the rubber hose from the other cuff. No problem.
I recommend this unit as a good quality machine at a good price.
Additional info as of August 2010: My machine is still working like a champ. Still highly recommended!
Customer Review: Very Accurate Home Monitor Summary: 4 Stars
My doctor recommended that I get a home blood pressure monitor because she was wondering if I was suffering from White-Coat Hypertension (I am always nervous when I go to the doctor's office). After reviewing all the monitors available on Amazon, I settled on the Omron HEM-712CLC. It got good reviews and had an included AC adapter (good on saving batteries). I received it from Amazon in less than a week and eagerly opened the box. After looking at it, I was concerned that the "Large Cuff" was too big for my slim, non-muscular arms. That fear was quite unfounded. I simply tightened the cuff after wrapping it around until it was snug. Velcro held it perfectly in place. It took some trial and error until I got the proper reading consistently, as I didn't have my arm positioned properly. All in all I found the readings to be quite accurate and nearly matched my doctor's findings later that week. Needless to say...my blood pressure was at a very acceptable level. I very highly recommend this product!!
Customer Review: Awesome machine! Summary: 5 Stars
After going to the dr. office and waiting sometimes an hour or two to get in, it's expected to have high blood pressure. Not to mention knowing the dr. is going to "find" something wrong with you no matter what. Several visits in row my numbers were slightly high - I blamed it on White Coat Syndrome - the dr. said no. Not to mention I have large arms and he insisted on using the small cuff. So he put me on meds. A week later, one day I was dizzy - had a family member who is an EMT take my pressure - it was on the lower end of normal on a day I did not take the medicine early - I forgot about it. I came off the medicine until the next appointment. The doctor took it again that week, it was sky high. He told me to buy this machine. Took my own pressure for 2 weeks and it was basically perfect on every reading. So needless to say, when I went back, it wasn't the pressure he was concerned about, it was another "problem" that he created.
Customer Review: Works well under the right conditions Summary: 4 Stars
I've been using this blood pressure monitor for myself and for personal training clients for over six months. Initially, I had significant problems with it reading too high in my basement office where the temperature drops to around 50 degrees (F) during the winter when the heaters are off.
When I moved the monitor upstairs to the studio, it worked fine. I do still find it advisable to take the average of at least three readings to get the most accurate numbers.
I also ask my clients with high or borderline blood pressure to make sure they have blood pressure readings taken by their doctor on a regular basis in addition to the tracking that I do.
The monitor is comfortable, easy to use and to read. As a personal (as opposed to much more expensive professional products) blood pressure monitor, it is a good value for the price.
