Customer Reviews of Omron HEM-780 Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor with ComFit Cuff

Customer Review: Excellent product
Summary: 4 Stars

I've had my Omron 780N3 for about a month. Very accurate - both against my old machine and the nurse's. I wondered if I were getting the N3 version since Amazon had two different specs listed, but it was the newer N3 model. Clear directions and simple to program. I like the two-person memory as well as having a guest mode. Good value through Amazon...less than $70. HOWEVER, I, like so many others, have found their new cuff VERY difficult to use. It is permanently curved to fit around half the arm and it is that curved, rigid design that causes a problem. Because it is so stiff, the cuff tends to slide and slip around on the arm which does not allow it to be sufficiently tightened. Then when the machine starts the inflation, it will not detect the cuff being in position/tight enough, thus signals an ERROR. Sometimes by pressing on the area by the hose with my thumb, I am able to fool the machine so that it begins to inflate and then I can release my thumb pressure. But even this trick doesn't work very often. I would say it takes about 3 or more attempts to apply the cuff every single time I want to take a bp reading. The cuff is really a very annoying annoying aspect of what otherwise is a great machine. I wonder if Omron still makes the old cuff without the rigidity of the new one.

Customer Review: Convenient and accurate
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this unit about 5 months ago and use it daily, first thing in the morning. I have it set up adjacent to my computer and it returns an average of three readings while I wait for my computer to boot up. It is very convenient and has become a part of my daily routine. The cuff goes on quickly an easily and one button push is all it takes.

I do not find the logging feature useful because I use an APP (HeartWise) on my iPhone which tracks BP, pulse and weight and also provides excellent charts and graphs to make sense of it all. This is a simple, fast system that I actually use!

I was concerned about accuracy when I bough the unit so I compared it against a manual BP cuff/stethoscope (which I used for many years as an ambulance squad member) and found the readings essentially the same. Over time, the consistency of readings has reinforced my confidence in this unit's accuracy. It is important to establish a consistent routine to get useful results. I sit, relaxed in the same chair, using the same arm at the same time of day for consistency. I do take readings at other times but not regularly. The goal for me is to be aware of my BP and confident in the accuracy of the values, and the Omron unit makes that easy.

I would recommend this unit to anyone!

Customer Review: Accurate, easy to use. Love the multi-user mode.
Summary: 5 Stars

We've had this blood pressure monitor for 2 years now. It still works great and is in good shape. Both my husband and I have brought the machine into our doctor appointments so they could compare the unit reading to their BP reading. This machine seems to match fairly well, so I'd say it's accurate enough over long term use. However, I will say that sometimes I can get a reading that just seems nuts. If I take my BP again, the reading will seem more "normal" for me. Not sure why it occasionally has out of whack readings.

The HEM-780 has a feature we really like - the 2 user mode. There is a slide switch above the start/stop switch which allows you to record the BP reading for 2 different users. This means my husband and I can use the machine without getting confused on which reading is which - even better when you take into account the large memory this unit has. I usually let our BP readings store up for a while and then copy them over to a spreadsheet to chart our BP over time. Very helpful for tracking long term trends.

This unit does not eat batteries (we use the rechargeable "Sanyo Eneloop" batteries), they seem to last a reasonably long time. Another plus.

So, easy to use, fairly accurate, good battery usage - I definitely recommend.

Customer Review: Excellent product if used correctly

Measuring blood pressure should be fairly straightforward - WRONG.

It turns out that your pressure can vary by as much as 10mm just by thinking about something stressful. This monitor will average 3 readings (it takes a while), so you can get a true average. Remember the low pressure to Hypertension is only 10 mmHg, (120/80 - 140/90), so if you are borderline, you will worry about an acurate reading. This monitor allows weekly averages to be recorded, so you can monitor your progress, as you try different things to control pressure. The AC power is a must, to make sure you always have the juice to run the system.
Its your health, but I would recommend you to spend a little more and have something that will last.
Measure your pressure at a pharnmacy first. If you are well in the normal range, skip it. If you are borderline, or high, spend the extra bucks, and get a good reliable system. High blood pressure cannot be cured, so you will check it for the rest of your life.

I love the mid size collar, that fits most arms, and the great bag. The weekly log is great. I would have given it a 5 star except it seems to read a little off on the first read. Subsequent reads are all more consistent. This may be normal for all systems.

Customer Review: Easy and Accurate
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought the Omron HEM-780 Blood Pressure Monitor in order to monitor the blood pressure of an elderly parent that is living with me. The monitor is very simple to use, and has proven very accurate ... as compared with blood pressure readings taken from Hospice nurses visiting at home, and from blood pressure readings taken at a doctor's office (both taken within a half hour of a reading by the Omron monitor). It's inexpensive, easy to use, and accurate - not much else needs to be said! But... I will say a little more anyway (lol)! There is also the ability to get weekly and monthly averages, as the system maintains a database of previous readings. Useful for following changes in blood pressure over time, and the significance of a particular reading (we are all different and what is "normal" for one person, is not for another...) The system tracks averages for 2 people and also has the ability for a "guest" to use it without messing up either of the average readings for the two "prime" users. The system can either take a single reading, or use an average of 3 readings to come up with the blood pressure. I use the average of 3 readings, with 30 seconds between readings. It's all automatic, and very easy to set up!

Highly recommended
